Hey darlin, that's a tough one. My bf and I have been together for about 3 years. Marriage has been discussed but he has never asked. I know how you feel about wanting to live together and wake up next to him every morning. But, I have to say. I tried asking my bf to marry me. That went over like a lead balloon. He is more old fashioned than I thought. He said NO. Not because he didn't want to marry me but because he wanted to be the one to ask. He said it was very important to him that he be able to talk to my family and get consent then surprise me with it. He said he wanted to enjoy that moment when he knew had done something so right that I felt like the luckiest girl in the world. So, before you ask, make sure that you know he will be ok with it. But I have to tell you something don't get your hopes to high if you do decide to ask, trust in him that whatever decision he makes, whatever his response is he has a good reason. And if it is meant to last...it will. Good luck.

Let the man do the asking dear. If you've been together many years and he hasn't asked by now, thats not a good sign.

You should ask him about marriage first, and not just come out and ask him.
If you can't talk about what marriage is like and what each other's expectations are before you say "lets get married" by proposing, this won't be a long and happy marriage.

First you should through hints to see if he wont to get married first. Because I wouldn't wont you to try and ask him to marry you and he really don't wont to get married yet.

when you feel ready, take him on a special weekend away on a anniv or a birthday etc, or make a lovely meal with candles etc,
but ask him when you feel ready,
