I've had my cat for 3 years and he has never done anything bad, has always used the litterbox...yesterday he peed on the carpet by the door and he is always sniffing over in that area..my other cat is now pregnant, could it have anything to do with that? why would he pee like that when he never has before?

Well, you never said if he was neutered or not.If he is not, then that could result in this kind of behavior. Also, a possibility of an infection. A cat that good, and does that, could be something wrong. It could be a hormonal problem too as you said your other cat is pregnet. Kidney problems will do this too. Steam clean that area with vinegar and then reclean it with what you usually use. If the smell remains, he will do it again. He may not have meant to, I bet a medical problem. Take care of it before it becomes habit. Doc needs to see your boy. Get him neutered if he is not, and after your other cat gives birth, when vet says it is time, get her fixed too, first check for UTI. This will eliminate some problems you may be headed for. Keep thoise babies safe, no matter how good he is, instinct will kick in. Don't be mean please. Somehow I believe you won't be. Good Luck.

It could have something to do with it but it could also have to do with a health issue, Many times urinating outside the litterbox is a tell tale and a vet visit first should be done to rule that out. Also if you only have one litterbox for the both of them that may be it. You may have a stray outside that marked the door outside and your boy may be counter acting. I strongly urge you to have your cats spayed/neutered if they are not show cats...I do not just mean purebred either.. I mean a show cat. There are seriously WAY TO MANY cats and a ton of them are purebred cats. There is a huge overpopulation problem and indiscriminately breeding more is not advisable or ethical. Please be a responsible pet owner and have your animals sterilized. I am sure that your cats are beautiful but millions of beautiful and purebred cats are euthanized from a lack of homes.

Stress can make it happen and yes, the other cat being pregnant may have caused it.

Has he only done it the once? There is a chance he will do it again. I suggest you get some Felway or a similar product to spray on the area. It is a hormone and the cat won't go there if it smells like that.

Sometimes cats express anger or jealousy but peeing when they know better. I agree with the one who suggested getting a water pistol. I had to do that to my cat because it kept attacking the Christmas tree ornaments. You have to do it while they are in the act or they will not understand. All cats do mark territory but usually by spraying. Cats, as you know, are very territorial and do just jealous.

cat's will urinate in weired places to mark territory (this could be due to the pregnant cat), because they are mad, or because something in their surroundings has changed like remodeling. I had a cat once that wouldn't stop peeing on the kitchen counter when we put new counters on. If this continues there is a plug in you can buy at a pet store called "comfort zone". This slowly releases pharamones that only animals can smell and it will calm them. It stoped my cat in one day. It awsome.

I had a male neutered cat and he started peeing everywhere, when I took him to the vet they found he had bladder stones. Unfortunately it is common for male neutered cats to have bladder stones. The vet removed my cats stones and it continued to happen. If he does it again see if it is tinged with pink. If it is take him to a vet.

I don't think he went there to pee. Just to mark the territory because of the one that is pregnant he wants to protect.

they do it interior the nook because the seem to imagine that it really is okay, the kitten must have performed it once, and gotten away with it, so now the cat does it to, merely prepare them the muddle field, and they are going to be tremendous.
