He was never charged with being AWOL. Is it possible that 40 years ago he may have missed a weekend drill? Yes it's possible. I have also missed a few weekend drills in my career and guess what? I was never charged with being AWOL either.
Former President Clinton joined the ROTC and never attended. He was not charged with being AWOL "during a major war" either and he also became President.
Other than spewing a little venom What's your point?

George Bush became president because more voters wanted him in office than wanted Gore.
That's the way it's done in this country. The people vote, the votes are counted, the one with the most votes is elected.
This sure beats the way many foreign countries end up with someone who has more armed followers who are able to kill off the other guy's followers, making himself dictator.
