summer vacation in utah ends aug.14 and oregon's eends a month later. i used ta live der

Washington state is the same, as is British Columbia in Canada.
I don't know if it's a pacific northwest thing or what. I do know school goes longer in the summer, too, until mid-June. It might also be a weather thing ... August is a great month, while June is usually still pretty soggy. Sept is also usually pretty dry and moderate here.
It may have begun back when most families farmed (agriculture is still huge here, though not the small farms as it once was), because harvest really gets going end of June, and continues nearly until October.

Other than that, I don't know why.
