Yes, cops get trained to smell, recognize and the sticky-icky. Some cops get extensive training where the actually are smoking it, selling it and distributing it......They are called the D.E.A. and yes these guys can smell it a mile away!

I think the odor of marijuana burning is easily detected by anyone who has ever been to a concert!
The phrase about the "green leafy substance..." relates to the fact that upon visual inspection, they can *think* that it is marijuana, but a lab test is required to PROVE that it is marijuana, and in law all evidence is subject to challenge if it is not carefully handled and described.
The smell of marijuana would be something that is temporary and the policeman's reporting of it is the only evidence of that, but the actual leafy stuff is physical evidence that can be lab-verified.

I've yet to be caught. And I've been pulled over by a cop in a K-9 Unit with stuff on me. It's definitely sketchy. Luckily, the cop didn't smell it and he didn't take the dog out of the car, even though the dog was barking like crazy. Friends of mine have been pulled over and the cops have been like, "Throw anything illegal you have in your car over the embankment (on the side of the road) and just drive away." Obviously, the cops knew they had stuff on them, but they did as they were told and no one got arrested. Cops are definitely weird. lol And I don't really like them. There actually are legal forms of marijuana. You can buy it online. It looks like weed, but it tastes horrible. Of course, there's no THC in it, that's why it's legal, so it's no fun.

Move out to Denver, Colorado! New City Law passed last year: Marijuana is LEGAL! lol Seriously, up to an ounce or two for yourself, no intent to sell. My friend moved out there. People just toke up on the streets.

It's funny, though, how you really don't think the scent is that noticable if you smoke. You're used to it and you don't even realize it.

No police officers are NOT trained to smell marijuana like their K-9 counterparts. For the simple fact a humans sense of smell is not as keen as a dog. (Their are how ever trained to be able to recognize the behavior of a suspect). Once a person knows what marijuana smells like (either unaltered or the smoke produced from smoking it) they will be able to easily detect the presents of the drug. As far as a "green leafy substance", marijuana when processed can look like cut grass.

They use the fact that it looks like or smelled like weed to allow them to have probable cause to execute a search.

DUDE, it aint that hard to smell marijuana. it has a strong smell, which i think is dumb, if folk wanna smoke it so bad without gettin caught, they should make like some odorless weed or somethin. peace
