What you have to remember is that these are books written by people. Every time the Bible is re-written, there is some hidden agenda behind it, some reason for it having to be re-written. If there weren't, then there would be no need to re-write it.
Every time the Bible has been re-written, the authors have tried to put their own little spin on it, to make it slightly different from the other Bibles out there. Over the thousands of years since the first Bible was written, it has been copied and changed so many times that the modern versions we read are probably completely different to the original collection of books that made up the very first Bible.
The reason that the different authors have put their own little spin on it is because the Faithful will follow everything written in it, believing it to be the word of God. Therefore, it is a good way of getting a lot of people to follow certain rules, as has been proven since its existence.
Re-writing the Bible is also incredibly profitable, especially if you can convince the Faithful that there is some really important reason why they adopt this new version. They all go out and buy it, and the author is laughing all the way to the bank.
I read the Bible when I was younger. It is quite a good read; lots of different stories with one underlying theme. I preferred the old testament, because the start of the new testament is like reading the same story four times. If I had written it, I would have spread these gospels out a bit, to keep it interesting.
It's not something I would read again though. I prefer Lord of the Rings; one of my favourite books of all time.

ANY Bible can be called "the Holy Bible"-- including the New Jerusalem Bible. It's jsut another of many, many versions, that's all.
