a couple answers here,1 they adore anything that smells like the person they love(their alpha pack leader) and 2 it is to leave traces of their scent on you so any animals you meet know that you already have a pack and are not looking.Its a protective device,kinda claiming you as theirs.

by leaving marks from scent glands around their face,they are claiming u as part of their pack or territory-its a family thang!!!!!

it's their way of expressing their love and affection for us. they can't talk - they can't kiss, so they show they care for us with a wag of the tail, some playful 'whoofs!', a lick and brushing against our bodies.
