Anthony, I am asking this same thing. but i know #1...it's very addicting. #2 you can spend countless hours there without knowing.#3 you may say it will never happen to you but i have seen responsible people gamble money they don't have (mortgages) . As a christian we should shun even the very appearance of evil.So i guess i would say sin

It can be a sin if it becomes an obsession with you and you spend money that should go to rent and food and your family on gambling.

As a Christian, I would not want anyone I know to see me in a casino gambling. Would not be a good witness, and would not bring glory to God.

There are two problems with it. One is that it can be addictive for some people. The other is that the reason most people gamble is because of their love of money. As with most sins, it's what is in your heart that makes it a sin. If you do it rarely, just for fun, and you can afford the loss, there's no real harm in it. (I do agree though that the money could be better spent on people who need it.) It rarely happens like that though.

No, it is not stated as being a sin, but remember you cannot have two masters. You either follow God or you follow money.

Remember the greatest thing of this world is that it will make you think the devil never exists and if it succeeds then it is possible that you will never know of God.

So, is gambling a sin? Nope, but it can lead you away from God and that leading is hatred towards God.

There is no real reference to gambling being a sin, but it is not harmful to do it once in a while for fun, but there are those who go after it with big dreams of hitting the jackpot and they are walking into sin, it becomes an idol of sorts.

This is another one of those "gray" areas. The Bible is silent as far as this being a sin. The question is, is it wise? By doing it, will you cause another to stumble? Will you offend a brother or sister? I guess it is something you would have to decide for yourself. If you feel convicted about it, you are not doing it in faith, and it should be avoided. Me, I generally don't do it. I would rather invest my money where I get a better return. I have occasionally participated in basketball pool or bowl game pool at work, for low stakes. I have also bought a lottery ticket for myself, my wife and son at Christmas, just a bit of fun. But I never buy lottery tickets any other time, nor have I ever been to Vegas, nor wish to. Hope this helps.

anthonyinkc,
I have found nothing in the Bible that says that gambling is a sin. The fool will gamble his money away is a Proverb. I guess that's true without knowing the Bible, eh?

I have never found a Bible verse that directly says that gambling is a sin. I could be wrong, but I haven't seen it.

However, Paul advised us to avoid anything that we found addictive. Any addiction is literally a "god" or "idol", and thus violates the first commandment (worship no other gods). This principle could apply to anything (like TV watching) that so dominates our behavior that it interferes with our other responsibilities.

I hated the whole enviroment, people sitting around wasting their money and time getting nowhere fast...there are better things to spend your time and money on. Ther are people starving in this world...why make casino bosses richer??? I say it's a sin!
