That depends on what type of person you want to be.
Many people look for evidence to support their own desires because many people do not want to really think critically. Many people will also not consider any evidence that contradicts what they already choose to believe. That is the point; you choose everything you believe. But remember, what you say doesn't show what you really believe- it's how you live that shows what you really believe. Take a look at how most Americans live; do you honestly see Americas living as a Christian nation? No. America is a religious nation but not Christian.
Christianity is based on facts-evidence. As with any belief, you must weigh the evidence, measure the evidence against reality, and then decide whether or not to believe. It still comes down to the element of faith. It takes as much faith to be an aetheist or agnostic than it does to be a Christian.
If you truly and honestly want to know the truth about something then follow the evidence. But, be sure you are ready to accept whatever and wherever the evidence leads you.

If you are looking for the kind of evidence that is unearthed like an artifact that proves God exists, then you will frustrate yourself until you are on your deathbed. That, or you'll tell yourself since there isn't any clear cut scientifically proved evidence that God exists than God must not exist and you'll pat yourself on the back, you'll die, and go wherever you think that will lead you or not lead you. Belief doesn't need evidence, religion does however, and there is plenty of evidence religion exists. For example, if a person believes they love their parents because while growing up they met their needs, disciplined them by standards they saw as justifiable, and care for them. Ergo, if those things were taken out of the equation that person would have no reason to love their parents, right? Is that the way it works? You love your parents not because of the tangible evidence you can hold like you wanted to play baseball so dad got you a glove, now you love dad. You love them because you do. Evidence has little to do with it.

Find evidence to support my belief. But my evidence does not have to be necessary approved or proven other than me because I don't feel answerable to anyone what I believe in.

Sometimes faith is more than intellectual consent.
Even if science and logic are used to support belief, (i.e; the big bang created the known universe from a singularity, a single mass. Someone HAD to create it....it is the only logical answer), then so be it. Those that choose not to ponder the scientific angle are no more wrong than anyone else, they just arrive on a different road.

I suppose your question is one of faith vs. science, and I believe strongly in science. For me, finding evidence to support a belief is like taking the opposing viewpoint in a debate--you WANT to believe in something, so you look for support after the literal fact.
'Paulw' says that "Christianity is based on facts-evidence", and that is completely untrue. Christianity, like other religions is COMPLETELY faith-based! Give me factual, physical evidence on the Holy Spirit, I challenge you, and I might change my mind!
Wow, I won't pick apart everyone's answer, but the answers here have given me all kinds of information to support my atheism! The logic in the answers of believers is COMPLETELY
garbled!! Amazing!! The more they try to convince, the less they
make sense!!

My evidence is found all around me.
For example in a recent car crash where we survived contact with an 18 wheeler on I 40 here in Crossville Tennessee, God's angels kept us from death by a number of what could be considered coincidences.
Our car was flipped away from the truck by a tractor rear wheel when it could have crushed us.
The cruise control pulled us way from the truck when it could have failed.......The gas tank didn't rupture.....no fire.
The seat belts held us all when anyone of us could have been lost out of the rolling car.
I personally stepped outside and could have walked away had I not been restrained by two nurses who stopped to assist until the ambulances arrived.
Our injuries were severe cuts and bruises and two broken bones when it could have been decapitation.
Yes! We have evidence of the love of Jehovah!

Belief is wholly a psychological matter, a delusion - no basis in reality whatsoever. Once the delusion takes hold, then all rational thinking ceases and is replaced by mindless bible spouting. Powerful evidence for the absurdity of religion.

I have faith in Jesus.
Evidence comes next.
When I opened my heart and soul to God, God (not people) provided me with the evidence.
That is, if one is looking for evidence of God first, one may very well look forever. God speaks to the mind, heart, and, soul once these things are connected to him. Until the connection is made, the way is barred. The connection is made--to restate--by faith.

I went to church every Sunday as a child, but I never really believed in the Lord whole heartily. I felt a powerful presence at a non-denominational Christian church and I was hooked. My faith became knowledge. I then searched for more knowledge through the Bible.
