My mother and I moved to the USA when I was 10 years old. She received her legal residence, but she never applied for me so I don't have any legal status. Basically, I'm illegal.
I am 21 years old now and I can not do anything. I can't work or go to school.
When I was 19 I tried to get my legal status, but they placed me on hold.
I don't have any money and I can't work or go to school.
On top of that, my mother is abusive. She treats me like a slave and wants me to do everything from cook to clean to handy work to renovating her whole house. When I don't do something immediately, she screams at me and takes away my food.
Right now she is gone so I can use her computer.
What can I do to get out of this situation??
I speak and write perfect english. Nobody even knows that I'm from another country, and I don't even speak my native language anymore.
This is very embarrassing, but I don't know what to do.
I feel like I'm in prison.
Can anybody suggest anything?? Thank

Perhaps you can ask for asylum in this situation. You need to speak with an attorney who deals with immigration, though I know money is tight, there are many who take cases on such as yours. You can also contact local police about the abuse.

Unfortunately this is a very devastating situation you are going through if this is real. However there is no excuse for not working or going to school there is a lot of help out there. I am a foreigner too. I just acquired my work permit, and my temporary residence, either way my plan was to work somehow, and go to school. Thank God I was given a scholarship which is going to pay for absolutely everything, but even without the scholarship my goal was to attend school, and work. You think most Hispanics that come from many countries especially Mexico come in legally? Of course not they have to work with a fake social security, you have to risk it or else you will never move on out of that harsh situation. Like I mentioned above there is no excuse to not work, and go to school, you are the one making up excuses. Mc Donald's, Burger King, sweat shops, etc are mostly made up of illegal immigrants that work for a living. Reflect, and analyze on your concept of seeing things so pessimistically, and get to work on what you gotta do. Good Luck!

If you've been on hold for the past two years, you should stay on them until you get something resolved. I'm sure you have friends since you've been here so long. Go stay with someone who don't mind you chillin' until you can get on your feet and get citizenship. There's always options, but you don't need to stay with someone who's a slave driver....you know, some parents actually have children for that very reason. The abuse is unecessary, noone deserves this. Get out! Even if you have to go back to wherever you're originally from, at least you'll be away from her. Without all the drama from your mama, you'll be able to think straight and do whatever it takes to get you legalized here. I'll keep you in my prayers... God Bless!

Wow, that is a very bad situation.
There should be a change in our immigration laws that makes it possible for children of legal and illegal aliens to have some type of rights, even if their parents are neglegent.
Without papers you can't work or go to school.
I'm not sure there is a solution to your problem. It's like you can't go anywhere.
If I were you, I'd find me a nice girlfriend and marry her. Then you'll get your papers and can move on. But don't just marry her for the Green Card, find a girl you really like and who likes you and marry her.

You're 21. You are an adult. You can leave whenever you want and she can't do anything about it. And if you speak and write perfect English you should be able to pass a GED test and get a job. Good luck to you.

If you need a shelter from domestic violence, or other support, you can call your state’s branch of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. To find your state’s hotline number, go to the State Coalition List.

(I mean no insults or anything,I am jst suggesting.)
Maybe you can call the police or tell your mom in an angry tone.
Maybe just ignore her and if she takes food away then just go to fridge and get more while ignoring her.
(Again I mean no bad stuff but I am SUGGESTING not making fun of you or anything.)Good Luck and lots of it!
