If a cat is exposed to a cat with tapeworms they can only catch them if they eat a segmented piece or eat a piece of the cats feces. Just from making contact with a cat with tapeworms does not make a cat get it.

Well, no.
But YES. It doesn't get it from the cat per se, but if it is grooming the other cat & swallows a flea carrying tapeworm eggs, then it can get tapeworm. Or if the litterbox is dirty & it steps in the other cat's feces, then cleans it's paw, it can also pick it up.
I had a situation where I brought some fleas home from a flea infested apartment, and dealt with 10 cats with fleas (horrid). ONE developed tapeworm, to my horror. Fortunately, I'd worked for vets & recognized it immediately, treated it immediately, and none of my others got it.
Yeck.

Yes. Not only fleas but mosquitos can transmit the worm egg. The cat doesn't have to be bit by the flea either they get it from biting the flea when they try to kill it. Tape worms really need to be treated by a vet.

Tapeworm is transmitted by ingesting fleas that have eaten tapeworm larva. Cats can't transmit it to each other, but if they both have fleas, then they can both have tapeworms.
