If you look at it in a different angle, the American youth isn't performing well in terms of education? In recent surveys, i have seen that America rates low in terms of reading, math, and science... How do you expect America to be a great nation, if the future of America isn't performing well? To be honest with you Asia is even performing better than America nowadays!! I wonder how long can America hold on its superpower status...

There has been a lot of controversy over this lately...

If anything, I think half the reason is the imbalance in the system, and the other half is the ideology of the public.

Firstly, though america has many wonderful schools that suceed, there are many schools that are very very poor, lack teachers and resources and the expectation at these schools is very low, where as at these rich schools it is expected that you must graduate. There is no option of not doing so.

Also, intelligence has become something less and less important lately within society. Really, it's 'ok' and often 'cool' to be dumb and uneducated within the teenage population. This leads to a lot of things, such as preempt expectations of what students are capable of doing ie; black students are often expected to do less than white students, and therefore they do.

If you're not motivated to do well in school, you don't do well and everything goes wrong. And there certainly isn't much pushing people to do well in school nowadays...nothing at all except family, and a lot of times families that are not well educated are not pushing their children to be well educated.

America's super power status has it's days numbered if it can't take care of it's national debt, which is the highest in the world by ten-fold. This nations leaders are dragging this country into a nose dive. Another problem, the Bush administration has consistantly slaughtered the education budget so that they can keep solders in the middle east to ensure world oil prices remain at all time highs.

There are so many reasons for this
1. No parent involvement to make sure their children are doing ok in schools.
2.Some teachers dont' care, cause they don't make enough money to teach the kids
3.A federal law called NCLB makes American schools teach 'specific' things, and nothing else
4. A lot of children in schools have learning problems and schools do not want to help them, so the school ignores the child and the child fails all through school, and the school does not care
5.Students are falling behind in respect for others and themselves. They just don't care to learn anything.

We have lowered our standards. Our curriculum has been watered down so we don't make anyone (less intelligent students) feel inferior. The Politically Correct Police have determined that having a rigorous curriculum and demanding excellence is damaging to those poor little childrens' self esteem. Well, I hate to break it to them, but their self esteem isn't so good when they get out in the real world and compete with the well-educated foreigners (especially asians)

Sadly, some students just don't care about doing well in school. Another contributing factor could be that there aren't that many good teachers out there. You see, if a student is trying to do well and are still failing, then it's the teacher who isn't doing a good job teaching.

Obama is the worst president in U.S. background, undeniable and straightforward. I shouldn't remember who's extra likable, i in my opinion hate Obama and tolerate Romney. This united states won't be able to take 4 extra years of Mr. Obama.

Education isn't getting the credit it deserves. They get no funding or support half the time. Teachers don't get paid crap, so eventually they quit working so hard, and the kids suffer. Many parents are too busy to pay attention to their kids' academic needs as well...why make them go to be early or do their homework?
