I'm an atheist and i say bless you. I don't really think that being polite when someone sneezes is a cause for a religious ranting.

the phrase bless you did not come from religious origins it came from the Germans..back in the day they believed that when someone sneezed they lost a part of there soul...so they would say Guzuntite(misspelled I know I'm not perfect) which is roughly translated to Bless You

I wouldn't consider myself an atheist, but I am currently "between religions." Personally, I say "bless you," but not "God bless you" when someone sneezes. I don't see blessings as being necessarily a Christian thing, or even a religious thing, although this phrase had religious origins.

Nothing at all, in fact, that's what I wish everybody would do -- not embarrass me just cuz I got a tickle up my nose & responded w/a reflexive "ACHOO!" My girlfriend Iris knows how I feel, so we never acknowledge each other's sneezes.

You are mistaken to think that saying " bless you" after a sneeze is a "religious doctrine". It is said to wish "good health" it is used the same as "thank you" or "please".

when i sneeze i say excuse me whan someone else does thats there problem and the only reason people say bells you is because back in the day people thought when you sneezed your heart would stop so they would say bless you incase you died
