I've seen people and heard people on here talking about religion and belief in God as though they are one in the same. Is there a distinction between the two that we are not recognizing? Or perfer not to recognize?

subtopic question: Does anyone think that God's intention for religion was merely to gather his believers together like a family as to share in their experiences in life and we got carried away with it? Could we possibly recoup the original purpose?

Absolutely - and you make an excellent point. My belief and personal relationship with God cannot even remotely be compared to the religious group I choose to identify myself with (Christian). I love, trust and worship God - not my religion.

The logic that God can be somehow contained, or even defined, within any one religion really doesn't make much sense to me. Certainly, our chosen religions provide guidelines for us - roadmaps, if you will. But, God is what I seek - not the religion.

God is more important than any religion. I believe that all religions are man made. I believe that they all interpret the Bible to benefit their religion, their cause, their lifestyle. Churches can be good as far as bringing people together who share the same belief. And many assist the poor and needy in their congregation. But, is one not a good person or Christian should they choose not to attend a church? Or to be recognized as anything other than a Christian? Many churches believe that they alone are the true church and have all the answers to your salvation. This is so not true. The true church is not a building. It is not a specific denomination. The Bible holds all the answers that we need.

I agree with you. so most people know that when Jesus talks of the church He is not reffering too the building in which we worship. Jesus is reffering to the body of believers that believe in Him as the Saviour and Son of God.. It has nothing to do with a building. I thinkitis a shame that some these religions build these multi million dollars buildings in the name of God. They could have used that money to go along way to somp out poverty.. The building that our church body, allmemebers of Christ , is a community hall. That way all tithes are used to go further for the needs of others and people who attend our group or church body.

I believe that if God says one thing and your church says something different, you should go by what God says, not the church. So God should be more important than a denomination. If not, you are putting the church in front of God so it has become a god to you. Put God first in all things.

the real church is inside you.God wants you to love and trust him,it doesnt matter what church you go to.church was supposed to be a place to fellowship with like minded people.but churches are corrupt.a way to control you and grab your money.its more important to stockpile money for thier new buildings than to help one of thier people in need.ive seen people go to thier pastor for help when they were hungry and get turned away, then later in the service he would announce that they had so many millions or dollars for thier new building.the churches since the middle ages were made for controling the people..so no it dont matter as long as you live for him,not the church.

To me it is natural to love God. I don't care for any specific religion enough to consider myself to be a part of them. I think just loving God and practicing what is comfortable is enough. We need to lose the man made propaganda and just use a little common sense.

Religion to me is tradition. Faith in Jesus is the true way to God. Any other way is false no matter what it is called.
