You can give your mother anything. Gifts, dress, there are already many recommendations. But by right, you should know what she likes better then anyone here because you are her son.
But here is my share of idea for you. Tell her you love her and how much you love her. Take her to the seaside and have a picnic. Take pictures and print it out, frame it and sign on it (do not forget to include the date) and present her as a gift. Not all mothers is materialistic. Actually most mothers loves it when their children are all around and celebrating and eating and lots of laughter. You don't have to be rich to love your mother.

I know a son who presented his mother with a card that said she could avail of 30 foot massages whenever she felt like them---and he lived up to his offer.
Another bought her mother art material, books and an easel because she had been a good artist but given up her talent in the years of motherhood.
Other good ideas are a year's subscription to Reader's Digest if she likes reading, an offer to take up fully one domestic chore from her---and really doing it sincerely.
You could also plan to adhere to her advise in at least one thing that she has been nagging you for a long time---like starting an exercise regime, behaving more loving with your dad, watching your diet or just keeping your room clean.
Anything that can light up her eyes, bring a smile to her face and give her that feeling of satisfaction that she has brought in a good person to this earth. That's a good birthday present for your mum!!!

I'm gonna be 53 in October. The best present I ever receive is just having my kids around, laughing and talkin' 'bout old times, memories, etc. It's hilarious how much they remember and remember things even I don't. Hilarious, too, is when they tell me things they did that I didn't CATCH 'em at growing up! Just kills me with laughter...I llllooooove it! I love the picture of all the kids together idea.....dang why don't my kids think o' that...hm...and it doesn't matter what age you are...it's always the best thing in the entire world to have all the kids together, laughing and cuttin' up. And it's FREEEEE! hahaha! well. a cake is nice. hahah! One of the best gifts I received (materialistically) was one of my most favorite movies of all time...my daughter brought it in, gave it to me in DVD form and I said, 'but I don't have a DVD player" and before I could get the words out, her b/f at the time came strolling in with a new DVD player.....TOO FUN too exciting and toooooo funny!!!! Think of something like that....have fun and LOVE YOUR MOTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May I suggest a necklace that has the birthstones of all her children on it. There are a lot of different varieties. You can get them at major department stores (even Walmart) or go expensive at a jewelry store if you have more bucks to spend. In the past I have run across them and you didn't even have to special order them.. you might try a good bead store they may have kits like that.

Same with my dad (his was yesterday), I got him a card that read: "I found the best present for someone your age: 'Sympathy!' LOL.
But I also got him some great aftershave, think about something she has been mentioning and would like, or consider her needs and get her something practical along with something from the heart. She is afterall your mother you should know her well.

How about a spa gift certificate? She will be pampered (you can give her a manicure, pedicure, facial, massage, whatever the spa offers). There are packages with combinations of things that can be personalized.
