I have been fighting depression since puberty hit and thats more than a few years ago - I have done heaps of research on the net and been seeing Drs and Shrinks and the like - basically the general rule (and this is generalised) but if you have been feeling down for 2 weeks or more then you are classed as having a form of depression - you say you have become uninterested in many of the things you used to do - this is another sign - have you started pushing your friends away? Not going to school because its just easier to stay in bed and its all you want to do? These are also signs of depression - I would go and see and GP or if you are really not comfortable with this at least go and see a counsellor or talk to a teacher you might be close enough to trust for some guidence. There is help for this :) Dont let it go on for so long that you cant see your way out - there is always help.

I do remember having all of those feelings when I was 16 . However why would ask the question on here unless you feel yours is more of a problem ? Let me ask you a "Q" . If you suspected that you had any other Debilitating disease would you try to fix it by asking other lay people or maybe... go to an expert ? This is no different . These days the old stigma about Psychiatrist is all but gone . Go to see one and hope for the best but be prepared to listen to the Dr. if you have Depression .
I suffer from situational Depression, I am going through an extremely hard place in life . I went , and am on meds. and all I feel is MORE LIKE MYSELF { not medicated } You will be better off knowing for sure . Good luck !!!

There are sites on the net that have a series of questions that help to determine if you might be suffering from depression. Try searching under a mental health site on the web and type in depression. Good Luck to you.

Actually, you sound pretty healthy to me. Everyone goes through depressed feeling and thoughts. Perhaps you just aren't interested in the same things anymore - so go out there and find something to get interested in. Do something physical everyday and you will see your depressed thoughts and feelings go away or lesson. Even with depression we still need to so things and get things done.

I've been going through this "thing" for the past 2 years... I don't want to see a shrink because I don't want to get better, I guess... people just suck at times because at my school, they have different interests than me: boys, name brand shoes and clothes, parties, hoods, the streets, drugs, who's screwing who, etc. I want to talk openly to adults to get the meaningful conversations that I want but they're too busy teaching their classes... Ha. Just 15 years of age....
It probably is depression.

Believe me if you think you have some kind of depression go to the doctor and find out. I have had it all my life and did not really find out till I got help just two years ago. Some cities have crisis centers that you can go to and they will help you get the help you need.

You might be mildly depressed, and if so, there are ways to feel better! If you're not comfortable with a doctor or therapist, try talking with someone you trust. Sounds like you've been holding this in, and it might help to share it with someone. Do you have a school counselor you like, peer counseling, a coach? Find someone to talk with. You deserve suppport! :)

Sounds like depression to me and yes the teenage hormones may be contributing but it still sounds like depression so you should do something about it.

at 16, alot of your symptoms could be caused by hormonal changes going on with your body.
also it could be depression.
no one can say for sure unless you talk to a professional who can give you the proper diagnostic tests and or diagnoses.
webmd.com has a symptom checker but that in no way should replace a medical professional seeing you and assessing your symptoms.
