I am a White male and I am interested in learning the teachings of the above religions. They seem to be more practical and more straight forward than the mixed interpretations of the Bible and Koran. Buddhism and Hinduism seem to be more peaceful and spiritual rather than religious teachings. Besides, I have never heard of Buddhist or Hindu fundementalists. I see Christian and Islam fundementalists every day and it just turns me off completely.

There are some major differences in budhhism and hinduism.

I am not an expert but there is one major difference.

Hinduism believes in a supreme entity or more and budhhism does not.

Buddhism was introduced to the world by Budhha who deserted his wife to get enlightened.

Hinduism does not allow proselytising where as budhhism does.

Yes, there are others who have come into hinduism but I feel that is not true hinduism. Some people tried to open doors and hinduism got destroyed one more time.

Budhhism almost destroyed hinduism just like christianity and islam.

If we are not going to take steps now, islam will destroy hinduism.

If not, the multicultural and multi racial societies being introduced by the western religions will definitely destroy hinduism.

If you want to study religions, there is nothing more interesting.

It is painful but a great subject to learn if you want to learn criminality and human nature.

You will find lots of fundamentalists in Hinduism but not in Budhism. Hinduism is a religion so perplexed that even the Hindus do not understand it. It is full of miracle stories and superstitions. There is a casteism and racism system for classification of the people. There are innumerous Gods and Godesses and taboos . For mythological readings, yes, Hinduism is interesting.

Budhism on the other hand is very practical and simple to understand. It deals with your day to day life from birth to your departure and has an immense depth.

In Budhism, the life transition has been explained with such a great simplicity, that life really becomes easy to live.

GOOD ON YA!

Buddha said:
Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. Do not believe anything because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything because it is written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and the benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.

Ashok pipal is wrong about caste system. And no, Hinduism does not encourages racism. Hinduism does not recognise divisions and boundaries based on it.

"Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam" is its motto for thousands of years.
(Whole earth is one family)

Hm, Buddhism is really a set of philosophy that encourages moral living and discovery of self and life. As far as i know there isn't a "God". It is an experience of purification of the mind thru' cultivation - an "awakening" for that individual practising Buddhism. :)
