Racial equality is an oxymoron. As long as a person relates themselves to a particular race or group of people there will be racial conflict. I am a Native American. Even amonst ourselves, we Natives have tribal pride. One of the first questions asked upon meeting another Native is a racial question, designed to place a person within a particular place or group of people. I dont consider this racist, it is simply a way to identify where a person is from, and who they are related to. We may have our differences but when it comes to being disrespected, a Native is a Native, tribal issues are put aside to defend against prejudice and ignorance. I think most people are this way. People in this forum band together not as a particular single race, but as a group of people who believe the same ideas. It matters not where you are from or where you are born when it comes to battle, what matters is where you stand.

All races are equal. No one should get preferential treatment.
However, if something was done, past or present, to make it that conditions and opportunities are harder for particular groups, then I say there should be some accomodations to remedy it.
Ideally, there shouldn't be any need for it. But the reality is, there is.

The question "..should (a particular race) get preferential treatment because of the past or the present" is polar opposite to "racial equality."
..Simply because we can not have racial equality AND preferential treatment.
Now as a Cherokee woman, i for one, DO NOT believe in preferential treatment because of our past. In fact i'll go as far to say that programs such as the N.A.A.C.P. is counter productive, and is somewhat damaging to race relations in that it reinforces segregation.

While we are all members of the human race,we are not equal in all things. We are equal as humans but our desires and needs make the difference in whole scale equality.I am not equal to Bill Gates in his money making abilities because I don't possess his skills in his field, could I even if trained,no .Its he himself that achieved his success. Each person is in possession of his own destiny and what he does with it decides the equality to another.Do we each possess the quality to succeed ,no I don't think so,because the drive ,that need had to be instilled in us and in a lot of cases it was not.Does race enter in to it,I think not or there would no people of achievement from all races as there are now.Condition's matter yes,can we make the conditions equal no I don't think so .That must come from within each individual ..Preferential treatment no ,no one deserve that but perhaps consideration of conditions instead.

No I don't. I don't believe there will never be true racial equality because as humans so many of us aren't able to forgive and let go of the past. Until people can start learning to live in the now, take responsibility for their own life and destiny and realize that no one "owes" you anything then we will continue to have the racial issues that exist even now. You can't blame your laziness or lack of opportunity on anyone but yourself... in today's day and time if you truly have the desire to excel and suceed then you will find the means.. most people want the easy way out and don't want to work for anything.. they want it handed to them... that is just as wrong in my opinion.

Everyone is morally equal in value and should be treated equally before the law. People should have equality of OPPORTUNITY, NOT equality of CONDITION.
