Light colors, light trim, rugs actually do help. Mirrors help a lot as well. Light colored curtain or drapes help too.

Paint the ceiling so that it looks like the sky. Keep to light colors or white with primary accessories. Light furniture. Dark stuff makes a small room look smaller.

Put mirror on the walls at different levels (safety mirror, not framed mirrors). This will open up the room and also give baby something interesting to look at, him/her self.

Why do you need it to look bigger? Just downsize your furniture or hardly any at all. Pastel colors on the walls for freshness, nothing harsh. White furniture. White curtains. Brightly colored throw rugs. Fresh as a daisy! Have fun.
