Although ettiquitte seems to indicate no, I think that times have changed and this rule should change, also. Children at this age tend to really enjoy money and the ability to select their own gifts, because it is something they may not often be able to do, and they are just learning about money. Personally, I enjoyed getting money when I was younger, and now that I've gotten older, on the holidays and birthdays I really enjoy it when someone surprises me with a gift.

Also, I would choose cash over a gift certificate, because there are many, many stores and many things a child could choose between. Maybe there is a shirt or a piece of clothing that her parents consider too expensive but she has really been wanting, and they would allow her to buy that to learn how money works. So if she received a gift certificate to a toy store, she wouldn't be able to buy it.

Cash or a gift card to an appropriate store would be just fine - just be sure to advise her parents of your choice since parents have varying rules regarding what their children should do with monetary gifts.

The only downside to giving this type of gift is that you have to put a price on the kid's birthday, so be sure to select an appropriate amount. For a girl her age, she'll also have to wait for someone to take her shopping.

yes it is ok.. The point of the party is not the gift that you bring but that you come to be with her on her special day.. Yes i know that they are only 7 but she can take her money and either start a savings account or buy something that she reallly wanted that she didn't get on her day..
so yes cash is fine..
hope they all have a great time

Of course it is okay, just make sure the amount is appropriate for the age of the child. And even better is if you have the time to get a gift certificate to a store you know the parents take the child to. That way he/she gets the opportunity to pick out something that will really get used or played with.

It is more than OK. Also most stores have gift cards now too.

Hope your 7 year old has fun at the party.

Have a bonfire on your outside. that is a thrilling, informal party to easily relax and performance thrilling! -Roast marshmellows/warm dogs -Play video games mutually with cover and search for, kick the can, and so on. Have a spa social gathering. it really is what I did for my twelfth b-day social gathering and it replaced right into a blast! It replaced into all hand-crafted and did not fee a lot. in case you want you need to even get manicures. For my sister's birthday she had a pool social gathering, it really is continuously thrilling with summer season. yet another idea should be going to be certain a movie, play or some thing and going out to dinner. chuffed twelfth BIRTHDAY! take excitement on your social gathering! :)

I feel it wouldn't be right to give cash. You got to get a card anyway so you may as well find a gift. A child giving another child money isn't like an adult giving the child money. There is allot you can get her. Back to school gives you a host of things to get her. From school supplies to toys.

It wouldn't bother me if I were the birthday kid's parent, but to hedge your bets a little, how about a toy store gift card? No shopping involved - just go right up to the least crowded checkout and buy one.

I think a gift card is appropriate. I just had my daughters first birthday and she received a gift card as one of her gifts. Kids like shopping and picking things out for themselves. Moms like it too!!!

That is the absolute best gift. Children are learning about money and it's power at an early age these days.
