excercise helps a lot. but you still need to get professional help. it did me wonders. between the help and excercising, i fee pretty good now.

i've been depressed most of my life-trick is to live through it, cause the natural high you get after can't be beaten -neither can the lows- but it means you are more alive than the dead brained `normal' people, who barely register anything in their brain. it means your brain is working harder-just going off into that vacuous void inside. if it really bothers you go to a decent psychiatrist, I did and the medication I got is great[no anti-depressants- they ARE depressing to be sure]. Got some good stuff that junkies in the street would love, but as said, they can help you deal with it. I told my psychiatrist I'd rather be down than take crap medication and now I'm on `dexies'. Legally.
as far as all those fuzzy feel good new agers and trendy experts go: about meditating, eating carrots or running like an idiot all over the footpath,[meaning excercise] that is not the answer. I sometimes think it's evolution/nature is pushing the envelope cause when I used to get out of a low, I felt like a million dollars [except it was too short]. but as said, seek some decent advice, and tiger balm and incense will only give you a headache.
good luck, listen to the `blues' you are NOT alone, there is more in your head than you'll ever realise, you have heaps of potential so all the best for your life's amazing journey....not easy I know, still....go for it. life I mean.

Depression is the result of going through a difficult period in your life set about by events that have a devastating impact on a person's life. When such events impact us, we typically react in certain stages.
In five stages.
1. Shock - When the news first hit us.
2. Denial - We seek a second opinion to see if it is really true
3. Anger - We may blame others and/or ourselves.
(Depression occurs when a person cannot break out of stages 1, 2 & 3; and remained trapped here.)
4. Acceptance - This is a stage that we must aim towards, there are things beyond our control; and acceptance and moving on may be our only option.
5. Recovery - When we reach this point, we are on the journey to getting back to ourselves. We have scars and bad memories but the pain is much less. But more importantly, there is hope for a better tomorrow.

It can be a chemical imbalance of neurotransmitters in the brain. Psychotropic drugs are available to help keep a balance of good transmitters like serratonin and gabba and maintain "normal moods" Anti depression drugs are sometimes called mood modifiers.There are many types of depression, some more severe than others, but most of the time it is a mild form. The biggest fear is the person may attempt suicide. The main drugs to treat this depression are SSRI's (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) like Prozac,Zoloft,Paxil and a few designer drugs like Remeron & the 2nd most used are called tricyclic's(TCA's or trycyclic antidepressants) anti depressives like Elavil,Norpromine, Trofronol and a host of othersthat also maintain a balance of chemicals in the brain.
Now I prefaced this answer to let you know there are medications to help and a little bit about them. Now if you feel truly depressed, like life is not worth living or have trouble just getting out of bed in the morning, then you NEED TO GET TO A DOCTOR. Most primary care doctors can prescribe medication for depression, if they see real signs of it. You don't have to go to a psychiatrist....... But the CHOICE IS YOURS like the rest of life. Choose to get help from a Doctor or just lay there. As a minimum, call a local hospital and ask just to talk to someone about how you feel -so depressed. They usually have staff to talk to.................. But do something!

If you choose not to use medicine, the best thing to do is start an exersise program, make plans and get out of the house as much as possible. If you have few or no friends to talk to, go to public places where you can a least interact with other people so you don't feel so alone. If it gets really bad, talk to someone about it. Anyone. There are a lot of good people who try to help you. Remember depression is only temporary. Good luck to you.

The temporary sadness that you get now and then can be worked out with physical activity. Pick an activity. It is also a really good idea to stop using alcohol or any drugs that you might use. They are usually a contributing factor if you use them.
The long term health problem that doctors call depression needs medical attention and perhaps counseling and medication. I would do the medication as a last resort thing. You really don't want to mess yourself up with chemicals if you don't need to.

Get a professional opinion.
My personal recommendation is to start with drugs for a short period of time (months), until you can stand on your feet. During that time you can learn how to recognize depressive thoughts and avoid them, you can readjust your way of life and your relationships so that you will eventually manage to cope without drugs. You may need short term, goal-oriented psychotherapy (cognitive therapy, usually) to attain these goals.
The sole fact that you are posting here makes me think that you probably don't need electroconvulsive therapy, lifelong drug treatment and other "aggressive" measures. Then again, I'm not an expert.
Get a professional opinion. It will cost you less than many consumer goods and will probably make you feel happier in the end. (shopping therapy is more expensive and is not really "therapy" ;-))

Excercise, healthy eating, positive people, hobbies, walking, comdies, keeping busy, and not taking live too serious. You may need to see someone as you might need an anti-depressant. That is not always the answer, as everybody is different. Most of all, love yourself.

Exercise,counseling (psychotherapy), antidepressants (many classes from TCA to SSRI and newer ones).
Depends on the severity of the condition and on the patient as well. Best advise is to discuss with your physician and be referred to a specialist.

Sometimes it doesn't go away without medication. Sometimes it does after time. If your are still staying depressed after a month then my suggestion is to see a doctor.Good luck
