I don't mind people being religious, but why are they so bothered about trying to convert others. Surley if their religion was so good, they wouldn't need to try and sell it to other people.

Organised religion wants/need power/money/influence & the people running the organised religion have had influence on the writing & translation of the bible. That's why there are parts of the bible urging the faithful to convert others.

That influence (of the organised religion) can also be seen in the 10 commandments - 1,2,3 & 4 are ALL designed to preserve the strength of the organised religion - no other reason. 6,7,8 & 9 are just good moral standards for any culture. 5 & 10 - obey them if that's what you want, but I can go either way on those 2.

Mostly they are brain washed people who are being taught these things from the day they have taken birth and they are doing the same thing with other people who are mentally illiterate. .
If you talk about Hindu religion I can tell you that in Hindu religion it is said that a Hindu is a Hindu by birth so we cannot convert others. though it is a different matter that many so called Hindu societies are doing so for their own benefits. But if you ask a true Hindu about this he would not approve it because a rose will remain a rose whether you will convert it into something else

Many people feel that they need to "save you". Really, it is a little funny. I mean if you do not believe in their standpoint, for instance, hell, what are they saving you from? Of course of you mention that to them they will tell you that just because you do not believe in it, that does not mean they are wrong. Of course in a really odd way that is true. If you do not believe in cancer that does not mean it does not exist. But I digress. Apparently members of certain belief systems feel it is their job to save the world, or to give persecution to everyone outside of their beliefs. They are so right and everyone else is naive. You have two choices nod and leave or fight back and tell them why you do not need saving. Just remember, either way they will walk away still feeling pompous and correct in their beliefs. I think the better question is why can't some people just let others believe in what they want?

It's called 'validation'. Deep down, they know that their beliefs are nothing more than delusions, and their subconscious rebels against that. So, they have to reinforce those delusions periodically by commiserating with people who are similarly deluded. The ultimate rush, though, is to actually convince someone to join them in their delusions. If you stop to think about it, you will realize that Christians are very much like the Borg, on Star Trek Next Generation: "You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile." I would not be surprised to learn that thoughts of Christianity provided the 'creative spark' for the Borg concept.

My mum is a Jehovah's Witness and she genuinely believes that she knows the Truth and that the Truth will set you free.
She will try to take this Truth to as many people as possible in the genuine belief that everyone should have the chance to know and make up their own minds.
The way Jehovah's Witnesses see it is that they are spreading the good news and they are following the word of Jesus who told his disciples to do it.

Only the over-zealous Christians are guilty of trying to convert others. As a Christian, it's a matter of choice - you either wish to become a Christian (follower of Christ) or you don't. I do not try and twist people's arms. If they want to go their way that's their loss. And to those people who don't know what they are talking about - put your brains in gear before you open your big mouths. That's assuming you have brains - you've already got big mouths!

To us christians the word of God is"GOOD NEWS" so to speak.Everybody likes to hear good news about them.If you heard that there is someone who will unconditionally love you no matter whatever issues you have and still give the blessings that you will not even be able to have room enough to store them or leave a legacy of unmeasurable wealth will you not want to share that news with someone?

Because the bible says so. So what, it's just a book, that's it. The end. Buy a new book. Quote that for a few weeks then get over it. AAAAHHHHHHHH

They rant on about it because they have nothing else, they convert others so they don't feel so stupid because they got another fool to believe in it.

Just makes them feel better, like cake !

if they didn't convert people then the religion would last only one generation. Actually, conversion/assimilation is the way religions reproduce and assure the next generation of believers and the life of the religion itself. When there's no-one left to believe the religion dies. it's the same with language and lots of other social mores. Ironic really when you think that even religions obey Darwins laws of natural selection!
