Iam doing this because I made a answer for some one who didn't like pitbulls only to have the question removed. here is what I wrote:At one time I shared your opinion, but I only had the media stories of attacks by pit bull's.
I now have met 3 pit bulls and they were friendly and fun loving, I wouldn't want on for myself but I no longer have a bad opinion about the breed . Now my opinion is about the owner.
Destroy a vicious dog and then prosecute the owner.

Never trust a pit bull not to fight...
It is not a hate of other dogs that causes pit bulls to fight, but rather an "urge" to do so that has been bred into the dogs for many generations. Pit bulls may fight over hierarchic status, but external stimulus or excitement can also trigger a fight. Remember that any canine can fight, but pit bulls were bred specifically for their drive, intensity, and determination to win.

Pit bull owners must be aware of the remarkable fighting abilities these dogs posses and always keep in mind that pit bulls have the potential to inflict serious injury to other animals. A pit bull may not even be the one starting a conflict, but he has the genetics to finish it. Remember that pit bulls are almost always blamed no matter who initiated the hostilities, and often end up paying the price...as does the owner!

That said, some pit bulls get along great with other pets and may live happily with other dogs without incident. We just can't assume that this is true for all of them, or take for granted that pit bulls getting along with other pets today will do so tomorrow. Pit bull owners must have common sense and make sure they don't set their dogs up for failure by putting them in inappropriate situations.

Every negative incident involving a pit bull adds to their reputation and jeopardizes our right to own these great dogs. Keep your pit bull out of trouble!

Please remember that animal-aggression and people-aggression are two distinct traits and should never be confused. Unless they have been very poorly bred and/or specifically "trained" to attack humans (often by undesirable individuals through abusive methods), pit bulls are, by nature, very good with people. They are, in fact, one of the most loving, loyal, friendly and dedicated companions one can have.

PBRC hopes this article will help people understand why so many of us are deeply dedicated to these wonderful dogs. Pit bull dogs need more help, compassion and understating than many other breed, but they will pay you back with more love and loyalty than you ever thought possible.

No, there is no breed that is all bad! In all breeds there is a range of personalities, but with good owners anything can be managed. There are certain traits that are innate in each breed, but once again with educated, responsible owners these traits can be managed. I have a wonderful pit mix who lives with 3 other dogs and as long as everyone remembers that I'm the alpha we get along fine.

A dog is simply a product of their genetic breeding, their environment and their experiences with humans. Some dogs are just more aggressive than others due to their breeding. There are some poorly bred pits out there due to their increased popularity with people who raise them in an environment to promote increased aggressiveness and to fight. This also applies to other dogs, such as chows and rotties. Because of this, these dogs has been labeled as "dangerous". They are big and have tremendous bite strength, so these dogs are a danger to humans when their owners encourage them to be mean by various techniques.

A poodle with an inherited shyness is just as likely to bite as an aggressive dog is when they are cornered, but the damage is minimal to the human because the dog is smaller.

You're right, it's a sad fact that these "vicious" dogs do have to be destroyed, but the owners who created this dogs also need to be prosecuted. Having a vicious dog in your possession is just as dangerous as pointing a loaded weapon at someone. Sooner or later, something tragic is bound to happen.

Some dogs are bred and trained to be killers and it's the fault of the irresponsible owners.

We need to stop canine profiling.....all pits are not born killers, but they can be trained to be killing machines.

I pretty much agree with you. No dog breed is inherently "bad". The problem arises when a breed gets really popular, and when it's a breed like pitbulls, there's so many "bad" people who get them. Then these people who have absolutely no knowlededge of genetics or their dog's pedigree, breed and that's when the temperaments are shot. Because they'll breed a dog regardless of how bad it's temperament may be, and in a few generations you've got a major problem. It's happened to lots of breeds in the past but they're not fighting breeds, so there wasn't as big a deal made of their temperament problems. The problem is definitely people, not the dogs.

It's not so much the breed of the dog as it is the inhumanity of the negligent human raising the dog. If a grown pit has never known anything other than abuse, you have to lay the dog to rest and absolutely prosecute the owner because it really is his/hers fault for the dogs actions!

It is NOT the dog, it IS the owner that makes the dog a BAD SEED. All dogs are loving pups, who are TAUGHT what their master want them to do. Dogs do not understand why they are getting beatings, or feed a certain mixture to drive them nuts. Not do they understand why they have to wear Chains that were made to pull cars down the street around their neck.
I would love to return the favor to the pricks that do this to these poor animals. It is OUR responsibility to look after the animals, but all most people want to do is put the blame on the DOG, and NOT THE OWNER.

Most dogs are not mean it's the owner that makes them mean.Alot of pit's can be sweethearts when they're raised in an non fighting family. It's not the dog's fault that owner made it mean it's the owners fault for being stupid.

People see pits as figthers they don't see them they don't seem to understand the bred.

The are no bad dogs, just owners. Pit bulls and rotties have bad reputations because when they do bite their jaws can lock and release is very difficult.

I have had pit bulls before and I like them. But a dalmation is probably the dumbest dog on earth. This is because of severe inbreeding.

no.. certain breeds of dogs a not just plain bad... it's the owners that cause the dogs to be like it... although some breeds of dogs require extensive training to prevent bad behaviour. some breeds of dogs are bred to be protective and they can't help that.. but they are by no means bad breeds.
