Do you have an OCD? Cause the answer about sharks not being able to live in chlorinated fresh water is logical, but an OCD or phobia can overrule logic.
According to the reading I have done regarding hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), the brain, when it senses that blood sugar is low, will do sometimes strange things to get the blood sugar (glucose) out of storage and into the blood stream. OCDs, phobias and other not logical fears definitely do that.
Suggestion? About an hour before you plan to go in, go to the kitchen and get some protein, meat, a can of tuna (salmon is better) or whatever, and eat it. Also have some carbohydrate, like a handful of chips, an apple, or some carrots/celery, and also some nuts or peanut butter. Eat at least 2 ounces of the protein. Then drink a glass of water and do something else for the rest of that hour. You may find you forget your fear about sharks. If not, post a sign outside the pool where you can see it clearly - SHARKS DO NOT LIVE IN FRESH CHLORINATED WATER.
Chronic low blood sugar can also cause self-esteem problems, anger management problems and a whole bunch of other physical and mental nasties. You may want to check out the symptoms link on www.hufa.org, and see how you check out.

do what psychiatrits do ..
go step by step..
change into your swimming attire...
and just lie by the pool close your eyes
and just visulaise
how you are gettin into the poool
feeling the inital splash and chilll
then makin the first few strokes,,
looked back -- no shark
few more strokes
looked back -- no shark..
keep doing this
but if you really get panicky
visualise that you are getting out of the pool
and looked at the pool from outside-no shark
time this
keep on increasing your time of visualisation
when its comparable to the time take short times
in the pool
and keep increasing

think clearly.
its not open water.
its not the sea.
youre not shark food.
theres no shark!
and oh,how could a shark end up in the swimming pool?youre not in a sea aquarium or anything right?
sharks dont eat people.
they bite people cause they think its somethng else like an otter or something.
and one more thing
before you swim, pray for God to help you think that there is no shark, always pray for God to help you.

Turn around and see.....there is no shark. Sharks can only live in the oceans salt water. Buy yourself a zebra striped swimsuit. I read somewhere that sharks will not attack this pattern. (don't know why...it must confuse them somehow)

Sharks can't live in chlorinated water, if anyone put a shark in there for a laugh, it would surely die.

Just Focus, i used to think that some huge tidal wave was gonna hit me in some small indoor pool LOL!
As i said all i did was focus and enjoyed myself and let evrey other thing in your mind go away for that time and just think of all the strokes your going to do and how it feels to let the water carry you! Bliss!
