do photos on walls make the place look cluttered + untidy, like there's too much going on?

A wall full of your relatives or family makes the place look "lived in", and if done nicely, (staggered pictures in different levels), can be a nice look-see, instead of tacky.

I would think about putting some artificial plants, or vines running around the pictures, to offset them, as green is a great thing to centralize the pictures..

I wish you well..

Black and white photos look great together but if you have color photos you might want to choose photos that have some of the same colors through out. Another way to tidy up the look is to use frames that are all the same color. You could even just buy cheat plain frames and spray paint them all gold or whatever your color so that they fit your color scheme. Be careful of hanging mirrors opposite the wall with the pictures because it will reflect all the photos and seem like you have two of everything which can look very cluttered.

I don't care - I put some of my own work on the walls in my house. Next to my bedroom are portrait shots of John Force & Mario Andretti. next to the utility room, I have pictures of Sydney Opera House, across the water. In my dining area is a picture of Randy Johnson & another ot home plate, with a player taking a pitch. Then I have about 6-8 others spread around the house.

It's a personal thing. But I think some pictures, the right subject matter, do look good. It cheers me up to see the good work I've done. I don't bother with sepia toning & I shoot color, rather than B&W. But it I can't imagine a photo being good enough to go in a magazine - it doesn't go on the wall.

I personally don't care for pictures of people on the walls. I'd rather have a shelf to have them on and have other do-dads sitting among them. I do have an Aunt that has a wall she calls a military wall. Anyone in the family that has been in the military has a picture hanging there and it's looks pretty nice. You might consider a college where you have more than one picture in one frame and have more than one frame. If they aren't matching, be sure they look nice hanging together.

I love it, I spent lots and lots of years moving around frequently. I'm now in a house of my own and I will do everything I can to make it look like I am the person who lives there. I can't wait to put some photos. Just, like the others have said, put some thought into frames and arrangements.

Depends on where they are really. Best to have all black and white pics, all in same kind of frame, and all on one wall or even on the staircase. Make a feature of them but only have them in one place. Mind you, when you are going to sell your house, you need to take them down as they do put people off. Too personal.

no, it makes it personal. Just stick them in decent frames and they look good, it's the frames that make a wall look cluttered or neat.

Take your pictures to a kinko's and have them copied in sepia and then frame them in like frames and stage them on the wall into a collage. It will complement your decor rather than ignore it. Just choose frames that match your finishes in your room and your good to go.
good luck

Not if they are tasteful and the frames match.

Black and white photos are a good option.

Also having photos on a table in all different kinds of frames is quite funky.
