If you think nobody saw you do it, ignore it. Otherwise find a way to make a joke out of it - take it to work on Tuesday and put it in the conference room as a souvenir - or tie a ribbon around it and place it on someone's desk that did not attend, and tell them you brought them a present - make it in to a big practical joke.

see what drinking gets you, GUILT GUILT, of some type or a hangover. if you feel it was wrong it is. BUT if your friends love you and be-grudge something as trivial as bottle of booze re-think your friends. of course etiquette requires asking ,or you can be animated, just grab it and say I'm taking this home and i don't care who knows with a big smile, if confronted turn it around , ask if they wanted it and hand it to them.then say i hate a copy-cat get your own original ideas! then jerk the bottle back. after the laughter subsides ask if anyone really hates that you want your favorite drink, the embarrassment at saying yes will too much.
(unless I'm there, cause i like to joke like that and put folks on the spot) that's what i did when i drank (stayed drunk for free!! ha ha)
you're up front and honest. AND IT CUTS OUT THE GUILT! and if you're the boss fire the A**hole who said yes, ON THE SPOT!! and everyone will bring you a bottle the next day TO YOUR HOUSE!!!!! DON'T BRING IT BACK, IT IS AN ADMISSION OF GUILTY FEELINGS. just be satisfied at being the subject of ridicule, disdain, and talk around the water cooler!!! you might mention you're seeking treatment for alcoholism and kleptomania. hey lighten up!!!

well, you have some choices, but first, something to think about. you did what a former co-worker did many years ago. she was fired from work, because it may have been off of work premises, but it was a company function, she was also prosecuted for theft for the simple fact is, no one told her she could have the bottle of booze, and she didnt ask, but she was seen doing it, and the owner/boss also felt that if she would take/"steal" a bottle of booze from a work party, what else has she taken from work....
but to play it safe, i would just lay low and keep my mouth shut, because you put yourself in a "catch-22", if you take the bottle to work, then you run the risk of getting busted for taking an "alcoholic beverage" into where you work, OR, go into "word" on your home computer, write a very heartfelt apology, have someone else address an envelope(no return address) and send the amount of money that the drambuie cost to the boss.
but if you are absolutely positive that no one saw you pilfer the bottle, then dont do a thing to raise suspicion, that would be like tattling on yourself.

Ignore it. Some things, while at the time they happened are stupid, are better left alone. You will draw more attention to yourself if you make it a point to bring the bottle back. Better to just let it go and move on. If someone says something, laugh it off. Don't let them think it was something that bothered you.

forget about it. if you return the bottle, you will be noticed even more. unless someone asked, then you can admit that you took it by accident, and you feel too embarrass to not know how to return it. in fact, give the bottle back to the person who asked you about the bottle.
By the way, caroline H (above) has a point, if someone wasn't there, you can say that you were saving it for your fellow "team mate" since we are all a team ; )

How long has it been since you took the bottle? Did anyone see you take it, or does anyone know you took it?
If it is bothering you as much as it seems to be bothering you, you will not forgive yourself until you make this right.
Take it back and give it to the boss in private.

You already have the sense of guilt. good. this cleary shows htat you have self conscious. Return it. this is the best for you. Otherwise, go back to work and pay for it, saying that you accidently took it home, cos you were a little tipsy or return it. do not keep anythin that is not yours. if you ignore it and kept it, what guarantee you have that you may not want to do it again??? repetition might occur.

The reason you're feeling bad is that you know it's wrong to take things. I think the honorable thing to do is to return it to your boss privately when you get to work. It sounds like you are a person of conscience. I think your boss will respect that.
