either you love it enough to spend the $3 bucks or you eat some other junk.
How often do you waste $3?
Tabasco is not a waste, it is wonderful! Just look at it as an investiment in a higher quality of life - culinary life.

As a tasty alternative to Tabasco sauce, substitute several tablespoons of pepper jelly for a sweet-hot treat.

1/4 c. Jalapeno hot peppers (Mexican chilies)
3/4 c. bell peppers

Grind & measure these two ingredients. 1 1/2 c. vinegar
Combine all ingredients and mix well in a large stew pan. Bring to a boil and let boil 3 to 5 minutes. Add one 6 ounce bottle of Certo (do not use any other kind of pectin). Boil again for 5 to 10 minutes, remove from fire and skim. When jelly begins to thicken slightly, pour into glasses.

To make the jelly a mint color, add green food coloring; otherwise it is a drab olive green. Great served over Philadelphia cream cheese with Saltines.

You might try sambal.
Also made of red peppers and salt, some have, like tabasco, vinegar added.
I'm using a lot of sambal: The Dutch "owned" Indonesia in former days so the Indonesian cooking (with sambal) spread fast over here

Sorry, there is nothing that's as tasty that I know of regardless of price. There are other great hot sauces but Tabasco is on of a kind.

If you want spicy, you have a few options:
Cayenne Pepper
Chili Powder
Red Pepper Flakes
Fresh Chiles
Fresh Jalapenos

OR you can make your own pepper flakes. To make mine, I buy dried habanero chiles in my produce department. Stick them in the food processor, grind into flakes, and store in a jar (I have mine in a baby food jar). You only have to use a little to get a lot of kick!

Try crushed red pepper ( found in the spice area of groceries). A little goes a long way.
