wow I do beleive you have hit on a question that cannot be answered. one cannot perceive anothers soul. one cannot perceive their own soul (or lack therof)

how does one quantify the intangible?

You can say so - though in my learning's definition it is not exactly the soul taught in Christianity. The physical body is controlled by a much more powerful thing called the "Chittha" say "mindfulness" - which you call the soul.

That is why you cannot put Bio-Mechanics and create a whole new being - it will still be lifeless.

I don't know!!! I've seen much death in my life, seen the beginnings of life and watched it flow slowly and painfully out of people. I know there is a spark in the eyes that exits while the person is alive but you can literally see that spark flee as the body shuts down. Its there, then its gone. Never seen it come back, wondered if life were simply like a light bulb that burned out. When it ends its over or does something leave the body and continue on? I just don't know, I don't live my life in anticipation of another life after death, live it for today and when my "Bulb" is spent, that is probably the end for me. I think we would all like to think that something continues on after the physical body ceased to live but none of us really know. We have many religious explanations to support our desire for a life beyond the body but they may simply be a "Smoke & Mirrors" show. Maybe I'm wrong? Nobody can prove it either way.

Every person has feelings and their own ideas on what is right & wrong.

Yes, this does all break down to bio-chemical processes.

I personally don't like the term 'soul' because it starts people down the fairytale road to religious mythology.

I cant call myself an atheist. But I am sure there is NO such thing as a SOUL or SPIRIT.

Human existence is just a changing stream of thoughts. Mind is the SUPREME entitity. If u want to call ur mind SOUL that's fine by me.

But please dont get buffooned by religious belony.

I personally don't believe such a thing.

For me there is no soul or spirit; we just do what we do in response to the way we think and feel about things.

No inner man.

Nothing.

The soul is just the reification of a mental product. Believers have to have a soul so they can rationalize the absurdity of an afterlife. Once dead, no brain activity, no mind, no soul.

I personally don't believe we have a soul or a spirit. I think all atheists would agree. We are what we are, and when we die, we will sleep forever, the same way before we were born.

totally biochemical.
I have no memory of life as a soul before this one, which has led me to conclude that there is no soul.
And now there is a drug to alter people's chemicals that change who they love, how they behave, how nice they are, etc.

I don't know if I believe in a spirit. I think we just keep plodding along from birth thru selfpreservation until death.
