Emo is just a sad sad excuse for music in my opinion. I am sure that they are lovely girls but they are very young which is perhaps the reason that they like such terrible music. It offends me that people refer to it as punk when it has nothing to do with punk ethics, sounds nothing like punk and is so far removed from the DIY attitude that punk represents.
If there was no association with punk, i would have no problem with emo because I could just ignore the whole thing. Unfortunately somehow the whole sad, terrible, POP music genre that is known as emo has been associated with punk because of its humble beginnings and history which has not much resemblance to what is known as emo today.
Emo now represents a bunch of children who like to think they are different and misunderstood but instead are conforming to a pop culture that is really no different to say, R&B or hip hop.. the idea and money from major record companies behind it is exactly the same. Emo kids are blind to the fact that they are blatant consumers of a mass produced product which is nothing other than a vehicle for product placement and fashion sales. Notice how most emo bands also have a clothing range? Kids who really want to be different should look for something that is pure and original instead.
