I am taking Topamax to help with migranes. I have been taking it for over a year. The first side effect that I had was a tingling sensation in my fingers but that went away after about 2 weeks of taking it. I have lost about 40 pounds from being on it. That is really the only signifigant thing that I would say is a turn off about the medicine. I think it is overall good and it won't hurt to try it. If it doesn't work for you then you can just stop taking it. I hope this helped.

Hi there,
Many of my patients have difficulty tolerating Topamax because it often leaves the person feeling quite "jumbled" and forgetful. Some people describe it as feeling "out of it" or "in a cloud". That said, some of my patients have had no reaction whatsoever. You are unique, and will respond in your own way.
One of the side effects can be a little weight loss.
Hope this helps...

Some people love being on it and others hate it. It is good for migraine headaches, use in some psych conditions and causes weight loss for some people. It can cause a side effect of causing mental cognition problems in some people. Hence it is referred to as dopa max. Personally I was afraid to try it, but I was having such horrible headaches that I decided it was last resort. It did mess with my speech for a while, but that has resolved. It has helped my headaches. I am not having any problems now. I lost 13 lbs only, but I am not dieting or exercising. It has held steady for about 4 months I would say.

i have been taking topomax for about 4 years~
it has been prescribed for me to treat nightmares & flashbacks, from post traumatic stress disorder.
all in all i think it works fine; i still have problems, but they are nowhere near as bad as they were before topomax.
my biggest problem is that the one pharmacy that i used to go to all of a sudden stopped filling it on the grounds that there were no studies or tests that prove that topomax is "indicated for my condition", even though i have been taking it for 4 or maybe even 5 years;
so i have a new pharmacy that had my doctor put down that i take it for migraines so that my insurance will pay for it. i do get a serious headache if i run out, so it isn't really un untruth~ i don't want it to look like i am trying to defraud anyone.

My daughter was put on Topamax to prevent recurrent migrains. She is having good results, plus it is causing her to eat less, and she is losing weight. She loves it!

My friend and I who are both bipolar took Topamax. We quit taking it and called the time while we were taking it the Topamax effect. It causes what seems like short term memory loss-you are just like duh? when asked a question.
