Here are a few cons:
They fill jobs at minimum wage. Many people think this is good for the economy. Although it may be good for the price of fast-food or the price of lettuce, these illegals are the reason the minimum wage is still $5. How is this good for hard working citizens?
They drain our tax dollars; section 8 housing, welfare, food stamps, free medical care (especially free childbirth at American hospitals). Now think of the enormous cost of their 5 children.. public schools, free lunch programs, their medical. In fact children of illegals automatically qualify for free dental care until age 18 because their family of 7 is headed by a dude that only earns 5 bucks an hour.

Read the question please.. I love legal immigrants and welcome them from all corners of the world to find their American dream. Don't fool yourself through PC blinders. Call life like you see it. This is an INVASION of illegal Mexican immigrants. They have 5 children here to become anchored. We simply can't carry this enormous burden financially. Yes they may be good people, but where does it stop? Step one is facing the sad facts people.

As for the (lack of) argument that Citizens of all color use social services and this justifies illegals using federal tax dollars, you'll have to show me where the logic comes to this conclusion. These programs are for US CITIZENS ONLY. Eat it

I was going to respond with the shortsightedness of your question and point out who federal entitlement programs have created a class of people who choose not t work. Capitalism requires a minimum of 5% unemployment to function. With an unemployment rate of 4.7% nationally and entitlements keeping anouther 2% at home that creates instability and SOME illegal aliens are providing a service by taking those jobs nobody else wants. Plus many illegals have legitimate jobs, such as McDonalds where they pay payroll taxes but don't get any benefits since they don't qualify for unemployment or social security. Plus they keep the economy afloat by purchasing items and paying sales tax on them, they are not exempt from sales tax.

But then I saw you raised the lettuce issue... almost all produce is picked by legal migrant farmwaorkers, not illegals.

Then considering illegals don't qualify for section 8, food stamps, or free medical care (except emergency room visits and child birth) unless your state has programs designed to cover those issues, I realized you were just making things up to "prove" your case.

But the ultimate was when you said "and their 5 children" and "their family of 7"... that sunk your whole argument since you just proved yourself to be a prejudiced hater who is casting false generalizations.

So besides being racist, you are wrong on almost every single thing you said. The cost of public schools and emergency rooms are more than offset by the tax benefits and stimulation to the economy MOST illegals serve. For me to insinuate every illegal is contributing more than they take would be as wrong as the nonsense you spouted. However you are far too closed minded to bother informing you of the reality of the situation.

How do you tell a legal one from an illegal one?

What if the person you are trying to determine the status of is a Tohono O'odom native American who doesn't know which side of the border she was born on -- the tribe crosses the frontier?

If she were a First Canadian, she'd have Jay Treaty (1794) rights to live and work in the USA with no visa of any kind.

Actually, in the early 20th Century and almost until 1960 people lived near the border and crossed at will without papers. Many are American citizens by law, only they can't prove it. And then there are some, born in Mexico, who went to school and even university in the USA and married and had kids . . . but have no papers.

I have listened to ALL the pros and cons, and have made observations, and this is my opinion... You cannot blame any man for wanting a better life for their family, but there are rules in place for the protection of all. When you come here illegally, and demand rights, without considering assimilating yourself into the society you have chosen, that is just not acceptable. You want to live here, become an American, do not simply move your old neighborhood into my town.... Now, the most important observation I have made, is that business here WANTS, yes, WANTS, them to be here. Cheap labor pool for them, but it makes it tough for lower income folks, students, summer labor and otherwise. If the laws provided stiff enough penalties, illegal workers would either get legal or go home. I do not mean the usual papers inspection they( the employer ) pretend to do, I mean verification from a government source that the paperwork they are seeing is genuine. Illegal paperwork ( licenses, greencards, etc.. ) is available EVERYWHERE, and everybody knows it... WHY, do you suppose, when that fact is common knowledge, do we still have the problems ??? I believe the answer is greed, we have it, south of the border folks know it, and we take advantage of each other...and they also realize that, if caught, the penalty is a free trip home... Not to mention that where I live, if a policeman stops someone, and discovers they are illegals, they are set free, it is not their job to detain illegals... In conclusion, I believe that WE, not them, are creating our own problem... Our biggest enemy we have to face is our own greed, whether at the local level or otherwise. I consider myself a patriot, I love my country and really believe it is the greatest place to live, HOWEVER, I have reservations about the sincerety of big business and government. They could easily stem this problem, but for some reason, choose to let it continue...??!!??

Well if our gov would take all the ppl in america that is on WELFAIR and place them in those jobs so they would still be feeled, And they would try to keep their jobs and do good. That would solve 2 problems now wouldnt it.Because those jobs will not be feeled with out atleast some of those mexicans. And small family owned buisnesses in south TX cant affored to pay to much over minimum wage. Americans think they are to good for that.Dont get me wrong I think I am to good also but there again, I'm not moochin either.

To start with if you are from Mexico, Iraq or Canada and did not come through customs you are in this country as an illegal. That in itself is breaking the law. That like it or not makes you a criminal.

In the type of work I do I deal with ID theft on a daily basis, and the truth of the matter is only about 10% of the ID theft I deal with is committed by a legal US Citizen, the rest is committed by undocumented aliens, and not the ones from outer-space.That is EXACTLY how they get section 8, medical, free school lunches and food stamps, by way of ID theft. When and if they get caught they are under another name and long gone.

As for your remarks about receiving free governmental benefits I can also honestly say that I have seen as many as 4 EBT (benefit cards) in 1 persons possession under different names, again ID theft. Those belonged to a young lady who after serving her time will be deported back to her country of origin, Mexico

I however do not feel they are the reason that the minimum wage is what? 5 something a hour? That my fried is our government at work. They can vote themselves at 20% pay raise, but screw they guy/girl that has to work at a fast food joint one shift and a 7-11 another shift to keep their family off of the welfare wagon.

In Colorado they are starting to put a stop to the folks who are in this state illegally. Now in order to go to the Jefferson County food bank they can no longer go in and say I have 20 people in my family, feed us They have to have a Photo ID, and a Social Security Card with the same name on it. Of course it goes without saying that they (they people who were screwing the system) threw a total fit over that, discrimination they cried. However, it was a rule put into place to keep 3 people in a house from claiming 20. They simply wanted proof that the Jones had the 20 people they claimed. What better way to do it than with ID and a Social Security card? And if it is a child with no ID a simple Birth Certificate and Social Security card was proof enough. It was not the people from here that were screaming discrimination, it was in fact the Aliens, again not of ET origin. If you are doing nothing wrong, you have nothing to hide right?

Why do you think housing is running short? Because there are so many undocumented people here that will not be counted by the Census out of fear they will be deported. There are a lot of drawback for them being here. I can understand wanting a better life for yourself and your family, but if I loaded my clan up and took them to Italy, I would make damn good and sure that we had the decency to speak the language and not act like at total idiot when they did not speak English. I thought that was a bit to far wanting to make it mandatory to teach the kids Spanish in our school systems. This is America. The language spoken here is English. Learn it.

I totally feel where you are coming from. I deal with it everyday. But the only way things will ever change is when we the US Citizens stand up and say enough is enough. Until that day be prepared to keep repeating your order at Burger King until they understand it or until you learn spanish.

I agree..like you said, people say that they fill minimum wage jobs and that's true. BUT, who is to say that if these people weren't here, that those jobs wouldn't be filled by legal citizens? I mean, I've never gone to McDonald's and there not been employees....and I'm talking talking about over 20 years ago before all these illegals got here. This country would in fact function without them. It has for over 200 years.
