I'm shocked that your vet would make a diagnosis of a possible tumor on the spine without taking xrays. I would suggest that you go for a second opinion. A tumor would be visible if xrays were taken. And yes, a tumor on the spine could cause the paralysis, but there are also cat health issues that could be causing it.

I highly suggest you either get your get to do xrays, or seek a second opinion. In the meantime, you can should massage the legs to keep blood circulating.

You will need to make some (tough) decisions regarding your cat. What is it's current quality of life? Are you willing to take it to the litter box multiple times a day? Are you willing to constantly clean up after it when it has accidents? These are things that you should also consider.

Sorry to hear about this.

I know of others who have and also had the experience of a pet getting a bang on the spine that temporarily paralysed until the swelling went down.

I think the point is what are you going to get the vet to do for your cat? There are many excellent (veterinary) surgical techniques available to help.

A stray cat that I had been feeding had that - she just dragged her hind quarters around. She had a tick on her and a few days after I pulled it off she got better. I have heard since then that a tick on the spine of a cat can paralyze it. I hope your cat gets better.

My cat developed this paralysis; I was told it was a blood clot in the artery supplying blood to both back legs, and is unfortunately incurable.

My dog had paralysis of his hind legs and we treated him with predisone for about a month, and it went away.

They guessed he had a slipped disk in his spine.

This happened to my tom cat, it was a stroke and there was nothing that could be done. Was told there was only a 30% recovery chance, we had him put down. Sorry, I hope your cat is ok.

It could be a tumour or virus, bacteria, fungus, or traumatic injury. It can't be diagnosed without, blood test and x-ray....Maybe it is a parasite...e.g. tick.
