I think that depends on the individual. Some people have no trouble accepting someone of a different racial background as long as he/she speaks their language with the same accent as they. Others will reject anyone from a different race, regardless of how good his/her accent is. The more narrow-minded people will reject even people of the same race if they don't have the right accent! I think if people are truly enlightened, they should not feel discrimination against others on grounds of accent, race and skin colour. It's just so uncool and ignorant to have racist attitudes. Anyone who has lived in metropolitans of the world or have travelled a lot know that the world is made up of people of all races and colours and that they speak different languages. So what's the big deal if someone talks with a different accent or comes from a different cultural background? Aren't we all complaining that the world is becoming homogenous? Then why don't we celebrate the difference and learn to live alongside each other peacefully?

Sure. People are expected to have less accent by the next generation, and therefor would be presumed immigrants if they have a heavy accent and difficulty speaking English. However, what is wrong with being an immigrant?
It is only illegal immigrants who have broken the law.
My grandfather and his family still had German accents, and their family had come from Germany in the 1700's - they had just traveled in a group of German farmers to Russia, then here, in a group, in the 1800's. Their old folks on the farm still spoke fluent German as well as English. They weren't immigrants for several generations back, but wouldn't have been insulted to be considered such.
Regarding 'race', I presume you mean 'nationality'. The government tells us that 50% of Mexican nationals in the US are here illegally. I don't assume a particular one I meet is illegally here. However, statistically it is much more likely that a Mexican national I meet in the US is illegally here than an Italian national, for example.

Accent or race determines that a person is an immigrant but not always. For example, if a person is born in a country with a different race, he is not an immigrant but a citizen by birth.

A different accent in the western world would give the impression that you were foreign also if your dress code and skin colour was different it may also give the impression you are not local until people got another message like speaking to you and hearing a local accent.

no we aren't iam british asian and have an english accent a west london one and no iam not classed as an immigrant eventhough most people do . In some parts of the country yes because if the majority of people are white english in your area then yes if they aren't then no but still either way nowadays we are not classed as first class british citizens but as second class citizens in this country because the british and the enlgish are racist and hate us all regardless of whether we were born here or not..

I'm from Scotland and once a survey was done to see how Scottish view "foreigners" most people said they decided on accent to tell if a person was Scottish, no matter what colour they are, as long they had a Scottish accent they were accepted as Scottish.

being a white "queens english"- speaking south african now living in the UK i find it very funny when white brits start ranting at me about the problems with immigrants, forgetting that i, myself am one. The UK has a far bigger racism issue than south africa ever had. Yes ours was headline news , but the sort of racism in the UK is very scary because it's sly and sneaky and unspoken and quite vicious, it seems to be based on hate rather than fear and ignorance. I have never known anything like it.

NOT ALL ENGLISH ARE RACISTS sorry i had to say that as it annoys me when people assume we are. right that out of the way....im sorry to say ignorance is a big problem regarding race, if you are not white your classed as immigrants, i dont know why people jump to that conclusion, i know several asians i find them friendly, funny, same as me. I think if people actually spoke to each other and take time to learn the cultures around us, they will find tha we all have alot in common, the only thing different is religion. i went to a mixed race school and had to laugh when on my 1st day i had to sign a form stating i wouldn't be racist towards other religions...everyone got along together.

Your skin colour/apearance. Most people are so ignorant they don't even have to talk to you before putting you in a little box and deciding you're an immigrant and thereforee somehoe evil and here to take their stuff. People as a group are very stupid.
