I have 4 kids ages 7,9,12, and 14. Where we live it is always scorching outside and the sun is the hottest it can be. We always go outdoors to the beach, swimming pools etc and I always LATHER all 4 of my boys up with suntan lotion head to toe!

I think It does not matter what age they are, you should always apply suntan lotion on your kids when its boiling out!

If you have children and apply suntan lotion on them, how old are they?

Not always. Some times I don't have suntan lotion. Sometimes we are not in the sun or its raining out. OH... and anything over a 30 gives me a rash!

We live where it is hot too but sometimes its the clouds that are a problem. People forget that they can get burned when there are clouds and fog too. I put sunblock on my kids frequently. Every child is different and some need more time in the shade than others, sometimes sunblock isn't enough, keep your kids covered when possible and remember that their skin needs a break from the sun. Hats, shade etc. The lotion only adds a small amount of protection to a persons natural sun block. Either you get burned, or you don't, the lotion just adds time to how long your skin can handle the sun. If I remember correctly, spf=the number of minutes of added protection.

When the weathers hot my kids don't leave my house unless they've got suntan lotion on. I think its very important to keep them protected from the sun. Their ages are 10, 9, 7, and twins at 5

oh yea, the sun is much stronger now (03 depletion), my little guy is almost 4 yrs old, when we go out on out boat, he gets a life vest first on, then a bath with a good sunscreen "Bull Frog" makes some nice products for kids like an insect repellant and sunblock in a handy little roll on tube that fits in the glove compartment on our boat. I get the summer sun stuff at www.campmor.com, great prices, fast delivery, used them for years with no probs. hope this helped

I would apply suntan lotion on my kids until they get to middle school then I would let them apply it to themselves. Of course you need to make sure that they don't forget to do it themselves. Make sure you help them with hard to reach places.

My ex always covered both of our kids with sunblock when they went out in the sun, but my daughter aslwas got burnt anyway. Wasn't till she was a teenager that we discovered she was allergic to sunblock. She was really appreciative.
