Yes we are better than the deceased soviet union, that's why we're still around...and believe me we would be doing alot better in the war against terrorism if we got rid of wanna-be terrorists like yourself. Americans against americans , the worst of wars is being fought within our borders. Thanks alot

The Soviet Union said they were invited into Afghanistan, the USA said they were invited into Vietnam. During the time that the USSR was in Afghanistan, people started asking if this was going to be their Vietnam.
People have very short memories. Genghis Khan failed to take over Afghanistan. Alexandra the Great also failed. The British Raj and Tsarist Russia failed. The USSR was forced to retreat in a manner which was only slightly less embarrassing than the USA evacuation of troops from Vietnam.
Why does anyone think things have changed?
It's a no win situation with innocent people being killed and starved. And the opium trade is better than ever.
By the way, the word you're looking for is 'impose', not 'invoke'.

The former Soviet Union had nearly 500,000 troops in Afghanistan for nearly 10 years, and had to pull out. They lost.
Some people think the U.S. is better because apparently we're going to do it with less than 20% of 500,000 troops.
Yeah, right.

I worked on the Canadian base in Kabul for 1 1/2 years. The US has little control over anything. The NATO forces are just there to allow the goverment to stablize and then leave. The Americans have been fighting done in Kandahar for about 5 year almost and are getting no where. They are now pulling out to let the NATO forces try. One thing I have learned about the Afghans is that if they don't want you their then they will stop at nothing to get you out. Thankfully they mostly like ISAF (the NATO forces). I think they understand they we aren't trying to take over just to help them. It is funny how they actually seem to deferentiate between NATOs intentions and the US. Then again I have seen how some of the American soldiers behave and I wouldn't want them around either.

The Afghans had our help fighting the Soviets. Meanwhile we quickly took over and the Taliban gets their butts kicked everytime they show their face. So sorry if that bothers you.

Russia invaded Afghanistan in the past. US invaded Afghanistan later. Russia will invade it again.
