It doesn't, the Bible puts no limit on poly marriage. Some Jews were still doing that even in the 7th century. The only Abrahmic religions whose scriptures state any limits on poly marriage are Islam (up to 4 wives) and the Baha'i Faith (only 1 wife). Divorce is allowed in these two religions, but not in Christianity, although roughly half of Christians divorce anyway.

Only two places in the writings of the Apostle Paul. If a man does aspire to be a Bishop and if one does aspire to be a Deacon in the church. In those two examples the Apostle Paul declares that such should be a man of one wife. So do not aspire to be a Deacon or Bishop OK.

Now many will tell you that Jesus did mention it when ask the question about divorce, but such is an error and a way to twist the words to support a doctrine that is dreamed up in the minds of humankind.

Another example cited is in Genesis where it is stated that God only made Eve as the mate of Mr Adam. Since God only made one woman for the one man, that is the rule for God does set the example by doing only what is good and right. In my view this is again a twisting of concepts to agree with a doctrine.

Individuals like Abraham had wives and concubines, David had many wives, Samuel's father had two wives, Jacob who was the father of the nation Israel had 4 wives. If it was so wrong and such a sin, how is it that God Almighty say Himself, "I am the God of Abraham. Isaac, and Jacob, I am the God of the living" after they had passed on from this life into the change we see as death.

My friend do study carefully and do not be deceived by the Doctrines. Too many want you to see as they do when in fact they have been blinded by their own concepts to the truth.

Now am I saying get 2 or 3 wives - NO - First the Bible says obey the laws of the land so if you are under a law of the land that may forbid it, I do suggest you obey. man writes the laws of the land and God writes the laws that are eternal. So do make the correct decision OK. I am just saying that in God's eyes you do not sin by having more than one wife unless you think it is wrong foir you and then you do it. You must act and walk by faith.. Likewise you do not sin if it is not against the law of the land. So do consider that very carefully.

Look into the concept as to when a man and a woman are married in the eyes of God. It has nothing to do with the ceremony and all the stuff that humankind set forth as proof of a marriage. It has to do with a mind set and a heart set. Many are married in the eyes of God and still single in the eyes of humankind OK.

Do have a good day and study carefully. If you have more questions in this area do email me at cjkeysjr@yahoo.com.ph.
I am not a marriage counseler, I am a pure bible student and have been for the past 23 years. I am a "NO" and that means no to preach, no to teach, just share ideas only OK to grow and learn. I do not care your actual belief or position that is your business. I will only tell you what I see in the bible and why - no more but no less if you will let me OK.

If God wanted man to have more than one wife, then Adam should have had Eve and Mary, Ruth and Pauline and......on and on. In the New Testament it is a requirement that a Deacon have one wife. God Bless!

The Bible does not say that at all. It is only the traditions of man that impose this limit.

God Bless,

Nowhere that I know but look at it logically - the sexes are more or less equal in number - so for every chap with three wives there are two with none.
