I would really like to know the proper way to prepare this - my attempts never seem to be quite like the one in the movie.

Also called toad in the hole (least by my grandmother)

Butter a slice of bread on both sides...
Use cutter or glass to cut a hole in the middle of the bread...
Place bread into a frying pan...
Crack an egg and let it drop into the hole...
allow to brown bread on the bottom and then flip for a few seconds or minutes.... depending on how done you like your egg yolks.

V For Vendetta Egg Toast

Basically, you take a piece of bread, place it on the counter, push a glass down in the middle of it till a circle of bread comes off (you usually have to rotate the glass around the circle a few times). Then you throw the piece of bread into a hot, buttered pan, crack an egg in the middle, and let it cook pretty thoroughly (until its hard enough that when you flip it, the egg doesnt fall through the spatula). Then flip, let it finish off for a minute and you're done. I usually sprinkle it with salt. You can either eat it like toast in your hand, or on a plate while letting the yolk run over the toast (it all depends on how long you let it cook).

Haven't seen the movie. Are you talking about what we in the States call French toast? If so, take a very shallow pan and beat an egg well. Add milk until the batter is a medium yellow in color, but still has an eggy-like thickness to it. Soak a piece of bread in this batter, both sides, until it is ready to fall apart, then remove it and fry it fairly slowly in hot oil till golden brown.
The secret: Soak the bread to ensure the batter gets all the way thru. Also, frying it slowly ensures that the egg will rise and make it very fluffy.

My understanding is that you beat the egg and then drop a slice of bread in it to soak up the egg.. Then the bread is either fried on both sides or toasted similarly.
