I applied lotion on my daughter until she was about 3 months old. Then I realized she didn't need it. Now 9 years later it seems I rub alot of lotion. My daughter has become a water rat! We live on a beach - we went to a waterpark 3 weeks ago and I covered my daughter and her friend (both 10 now) in sunscreen, lotioned down, I lotioned myself also. This was a 2 day waterpark visit, due to it's size. Everybody got lotioned down for the second day. So.... no, the type of lotion may change throughout the years - but you never stop lotioning/caring!

I apply lotion to my 20 mos old and 3 year old. They both help. I do it about every other day. I lotion them head to toe. They need it!!!My 3 year old can pretty much do it himself so I just help with his back basically. My daughter still needs me to do it for the most part. This is an odd question.

it is always nice to apply lotion to your kids. i apply lotion every night after bath time. however, when my son was about three months old, i had to bathe him every other day. he had real dry skin and i ended up using special soap i had a prescription for. don't remember the name of it. his pediatrician knew of the problem, and it resolved on its own when he was a year old. but lotion is not something you have to use. but there have been studies that applying lotion when infants are small that it helps the boding process and it helps the infant adjust to outside stimulation after birth. in the womb they had no skin stimulation as they were housed in water all the time. also it helps the infant to get used to being handled and cared for. cant find the website now, but i will keep looking and try to post a direct link when i find it. but i will never stop applying lotion as this is the special time between mommie and baby(i say baby but he is 2 now). good luck

I don't put anything on my child unless directed by a doctor. I mean there has to be something wrong. Putting lotion on for no reason is just...stupid. Your child's body needs to learn how to do these things on its own. It's like taking too many anti acids. Your stomach won't know how to do it's natural job if you keep helping it. Another thing. Don't use disinfectant soap all the time either. You can't fight the germs off yourself after a while. You will become dependant on this chemical to help your body everyday. The body is a great thing and doesn't usually ask for help. When it does, you know it. Stop putting lotion on your kid. Their fine.

If the child is a baby they say it is better to use cooking oil instead of lotions because it is easier for them to digest. I think that lotion should be something your child should be able to put on themselves when they are 6 or so. Before that age they may need some help.

My child is 21 months old and i do. I have a lotion that is plant based. It has no chemicals in it. I use it off and on. All depends on the type of weather we has. We have snow where I am from.

my son is 4 and since he was born a weekly ritual of a full body massage for him with children's massaging lotion is something he looks forward to. it really relaxes him and moisturizes his skin. his skin is baby soft and healthy.HE puts lotion on his hands arms and legs daily. he is old enough to apply it himself, but just like you and me, but i sometimes have to watch him because if i turn my back, he will use the entire bottle!
