It is true that you aren't supposed to stop and pick up the majority of animals that you run down, but others can stop and collect them.
However there are some that you do have to stop for, dogs being one, as any accidents involving them have to be reported to the police.
The moral of the story:
If you want free venison, game birds, rabbit etc etc go around in pairs. The 1st car runs down the animals, the 2nd picks them up.
That way you both get a good feed of fresh meat without breaking the law.
