Everyday drinking red wine -- 5 - 10 GBP

Special dinner red wine -- 10-20 GBP

Special occassion red wine -- no limit

Everyday drinking white wine 5-10 GBP

Special dinner white wine -- 10-25 GBP (although only as a starter wine, the main wine would always be red, and as a starter wine I normally have Champagne)

Special occassion white wine -- 10-25 GBP (although only as a starter wine, the main wine would always be red, and as a starter wine I normally have Champagne)

Note re Champagne -- price may ssem low but I buy when there are special offers and I also go to Champagne and buy direct from the maker and thus get very good price.

I live in Japan, where everything is expensive, so for me I usually work in the following ranges:

everyday red/white: 1,500-5,000 yen ($12-$45)

special dinner red/white: > 5,000 yen (probably 5,000 to 15,000 yen, or $45-$135)

special occassion red/white: could be as low as 2,000-3,000 yen (e.g. a nice Beaujolais Nouveau for Thanksgiving) or higher (a nice old premier cru Meursault for say 15,000 yen at the same Thanksgiving meal) or maybe a killer Les Amoureuses for Valentines day or for very special occassion something north of 20,000.
