I live in a casino state so hair testing is the norm for jobs. Depends on how "trace" you are speaking and how sensitive the test is. Generally speaking though, about 3 mos. My hair is chemically treated every 6 wks (hair color) which might be why they always come back negative. If you are a guy and shave your head be careful because they will go for the armpits or the pubes. I would call one of the labs that does hair testing and ask but my guess is 3-6 months.

From 3 months - 1 Year depending on the length of the hair tested.

It doesn't have to be in your head. Some companies may take it from body hair as well. And you never know where they have chosen to take it.
