It is a religion which,
throughout its 1,400-year history, has lent itself well to fanaticism, terrorism, mass
murder, oppression and conversion by the sword. Long before the age of political
correctness and multicultural indoctrination, Winston Churchill, that keen observer,
described Islam as, "that religion which above all others, was founded and propagated by
the sword – the tenets and principles of which are … incentives to slaughter and which in
three continents had produced fighting breeds of men (and) stimulates a wild and
merciless fanaticism."
It's so obvious that it hardly bears repetition. You don't have Orthodox rabbis
hijacking airplanes in response to Jews for Jesus. Jesuits don't shoot up Baptist
seminaries to protest the Reformation. Members of the Church of Latter Day Saints don't
tell you they'll cut your throat if you don't accept the prophetship of Joseph Smith and
the authenticity of the Book of Mormon. Buddhists don't put out contracts on those who
offend them. Hindus don't call members of other religions, dogs, pigs and the sons of
apes.

it is wrong to brand Islam as not religion of peace. Islam as a religion has nothing to do with the ruthless rulers, terrorists who were born in that religion.there are always bad people in all the religions. for your information Hitler, Mussolini, pol pot were not Muslims.many women belonging to the Muslim religion were gang raped in Gujarat, in India by Hindu fascist forces.Israel not a Muslim country killed several innocent civilians in Lebanon recently. the USA not a Muslim country caused for the death of thousands of people of Vietnam. the USA, still making the people of Iraq miserable and created a hell.for the fault of illiterate Islamic clerics who often misinterpret the tenets of the quran, we should not blame the religion as a whole.i feel asking this type of questions escalate religious violence.

I think no religion is evil; it's the way ppl perceive it & follow it. But I do accept that Islam has had a bloody history & the Islamic terorrists kill in the most barbaric way.But v also have Muslims who absolute assets to the world.
Evelyn talked about the Gujarat issue.Well, it should be mentioned here that what took place there was a 'riot'.it wasn't 'rape' of Muslim women. That's y it's called the Gujarat riots. If something happens against the minorities, suach a row is made about it.What about the brutal killing of non-Muslims,especially Hindus in Doda,India? The Mumbai blasts were aided by some local Muslims.
Optimistic, where the hell r u? Do u know that there is continued infiltration of militants into Kashmir? The issue is a India-Pakistan issue, not a Hindu-Muslim issue. FOR UR KIND INFORMATION, THE 1ST CITIZEN OF INDIA IS A MUSLIM- Dr. KALAM. Now u can imagine how Muslims r treated in India. These bloody terorrists r trying to disrupt our peace. What do expect us 2 do?Relax & say, " Go on terorrists, kill our ppl." Get some details about the Kargil war. it was Pak which started it even without informing.Give me a name of 1 non-Islamic terorrist organisation which is as infamous as the al qaeda, LeT,.........................
But yes, we shouldn't generalise. If there r terorrists, thr r some good Muslims also.

I am a Muslim & let me tell u MUSLIMS R NOT DISCIMINATED IN INDIA. U r a Pakastani & that's y u r saying this.U r jealous of our unity.
Only dumb ppl like u wii order beef in a Hindu hotel. Beef isn't served thr at all. So if ppl **** on u , thr's no shock. My advice - read the menu b4 ordering. HIndus never order pork in front of me.This shows their understanding towards us. And what the hell is this 'Hindu' hotel. Thr r no 'Hindu', 'Christian' or 'Muslim' hotels. Whr the hell do u stay? Sewage?
Hindus have 2 bathe if a Muslim falls on him? Stop bullshitting about India. This is just crap.Do us a favour - go & die! I celebrate Diwali, Raksha Bandhan, Holi, Christmas with my neighbours & they celebrate Eid with me.
Let me tell u that the President of India is a Muslim. Does that xplain anything? Have u heard of Shah Rukh Khan, A R Rehman Javed Akhtar,....................... Muslims who r idolised in India.
U r such a bloody ***** telling lies about India.
As 4 the question, Islam IS A RELIGION OF PEACE. How can u judge a religion on the basis of terorrists? By the way, terorrists aren't Muslims at all.

You're absolutely right. the koran expressly demands cruelty, violence, coercion, rape, torture, murder etc., etc., etc.
For those who mutter darkly about xtianity being as bad, the Crusades were there to throw the mohommedan tyrants out of (the geographic) Israel, especially Jerusalem which they were already demolishing in favour of their ridiculous onion top "thing" for want of a better word, on the site of the Holy Temple. In the concept of the time, it was right to destroy an enemy utterly so the argument about killing women and children then is irrelevant.
Things have changed and the world has moved on. Education has come to the masses. Unfortunately, the mohommedans refuse to accept education and prefer to operate as did their barbaric ancestors. for which reason, the only protection is to retaliate in the same manner. It's all they understand - as prescribed in the koran. They can't complain if the west returns their "compliments" as the koran tells them that this is how people should fight. Luckily, we have more in the way of weapons, and they don't make good fighters unless they are stabbing people in the back.

Matt, I really don't know how to answer you this way but I'll try.

Islam is indeed a religion of peace. I'm not saying it because I'm a Muslim, but because I've read what actually made converts revert to Islam. Islam, in general, is a way of life.

It dictates how Man should live life, how Man should treat women (with respect, that is), how Man should look after his hygiene, how Man should speak with others, how Man should mix with the other gender, how to do battle, etc. In short, Islam is not just saying how a Man should pray or fast but how Man should live like a human being that he is. Islam encompasses everything from prayer to hygiene to social life to fighting in wars and much more.

All of these can be found not only in the Al-Qur'an but also in the Hadith (sayings and acts of the late Prophet s.a.w).

It's hard to comprehend that Islam actually teaches all the aforementioned when all over the world, wars are raging, Al-Qaeda hijacks, terrorism, masacres, suicide bombings are happening. But really, it's all a matter of time and people.

Let's take Christianity for example. I believe Jesus Christ never told his people to fight over differences, yet people do. Take a look at Northern Ireland. Protestants are a majority yet there are unfair treatments towards the Catholics, and in retaliation, some Catholics form the IRA in hope of justifying the unfairness towards them by looting, rioting, the likes. Both are Christians yet they're spilling blood just because they believe differently.

As for Winston Churchill, he was just saying his point of view, which might or might not be the truth. When a Muslim side - in the past - declared war, they never involved children or women, nor did they battle in residences. Instead, they brought the war to deserted areas like mountain sides and deserts.

Honestly, I don't know about other religions but I do know that I was - and still am - impressed with Islam's etiquette of war (as stated in the Al-Qur'an). But now, things have changed. Bombs are dropped on playing children, fightings ravage homes. This is not Islam yet people point to it and say, that's Islam. It's not.

Etiquettes change as time changes. I'm sure you know what I mean. The same thing happens when a message is passed from one person to another in a group of 20 people. That is why it is easy to say that Islam is not a religion of peace but terror.

What I really hope you (and others out there) would realise is that nothing remains the same from one era to another, and that religion is not to be blamed but the people. As a Muslim, I also hate and condone the acts of Al-Qaeda for using Islam as a cover for their heinous acts.

I hope you understood my points and I apologise if I did offended you one way or another. It's just that, it's really vexing that people are passing judgment about Islam without understanding what Islam is, and attacking Islam for what it is not guilty of.

I hope my answer helped c",)

One day an old man divided his children into two groups and assigned to them the task of massaging his body, he assigned an equal portion of both halves and they commenced the task, after some time a dispute broke out about who was performing the better job, the teams then grew violent against the other and to discredit the other team started beating the portion of the body assigned to the other side, therefore promoting themselves as the best.

This is the position of modern day religious groups who instead of loving God are promoting themselves and their team or group as the best.

The purpose of mature spiritual/religious groups are to develop love of God, be compassionate to all living entities and promote world peace, this is the standard of real superiority and leadership.

Kevin, you know the truth. the Islam name means peace. The action of the radical Muslims, who are committed to the Islam religion, is fighting. You may have peace with them if you agree and submit

To be honest, except for the international petrol industry, Muslims have rarely appeared on the international radar up until the recent (and continuing) string of terrorist attacks on other countries.

"With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion. "
==> Steven Weinberg (1933 - ), quoted in The New York Times, April 20, 1999 (I love this quote personally. Says a lot about the Atheists).

It would be safe to say that Islam itself is a peaceful religion infected with a terrorist cell that has probably been hibernating for ages.

Actually, the Christian part where they don't cut your throats? Apparently, they burn you at the stake instead. After torturing you, I heard. Nice of them, really. Interesting also that you didn't mention the Quakers either (Salem Witch Hunt) where a bunch of innocent people were killed in the name of religion and accused by a bunch of little girls.

Buddhists don't kill people simply because their religion dictates it. It is really more about spirituality than about religion.

The fact that you simply say Hindus don't do what smacks of your ignorance on what is happening in Parkistan and India nowadays. Go do some research (or look in the bloody papers) on the racial clashes between Indians and Muslims. Then tell me about how peace-loving the Hindus are.

Finally, it's simply not up to you to judge another's religion.

"Say nothing of my religion. It is known to God and myself alone. Its evidence before the world is to be sought in my life: if it has been honest and dutiful to society the religion which has regulated it cannot be a bad one. "
==> Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826)

Sad, but true.

I believe in tolerance, understanding and compassion and I find, after reading the Holy Q'ran, that these are poetic ideals of Islam.

However, the basic tenet of Islam is believe or perish. There is no tolerance, understanding or compassion. Convert or be slaughtered.

In a sense, this is just like the Christian belief - convert or go to hell. Quite different from being slaughtered.

Islam takes upon itself the judgement of every living creature and is, according the the Prophet Muhammad, blessed be his name, given the obligation to kill the infidels.

I have yet to hear a reasonable rebuttal from any Muslim. Islam has the objective of being dominant over every living creature and this, in my understanding, is equivalent to the butchering of all non-believers.

I hope that I am wrong, but Islamic history suggests that I am not.

thorough your justifications, it's clear that you base your opinion on others ones, and theses persons are not Muslims, they haven't touch even the Islam (who can trust Churchill, what did he think about the crusades ??)....

And it would better that you bring a neuter sayings ...

Then, I believe that Islam is a religion where the first thing you say to any body you meet is "salaam aleykom"= peace be upon you, and wishing peace for everyone around you ... means that you're pacifying your life and others lives too...

calm down, stop generalizing, stop hating, and open you mind and welcome all cultures, you will live in a better better way ...

If you were asking and not conforming that Islam isn't a religion of peace, I would say NO, Islam is peace, Islam is ease, Islam is not a danger or disease ...

believe or not !!

Whatever your beliefs are, lets just remember that although the UK is a multi-cultural society, it is actually a Christian society. Lets then think back to all the wrongs that Christians have done in the past. Its true, two wrongs dont make a right, but the Christian religion is built on imposing your beliefs on other peoples, the crusades for example. An extension of this could be the modern day crusades of Bush and Blair...
I am a christian by the way.
