For example, i updated my mcafee security software and it started downloading files which i will install later. How would i know where the files are going? Other downloads will prompt me where would i like to download the files but others will not. Are there any software where uploading and downloading of files can be monitored?

For Mcafee, go to C, Prog. Files, Mcafee..............mosty you will find your files there.
If not than go to search and search *.exe, it will show you thousands of files so when search finishes, sort them by date and you might get your file if you remeber the approximately date of downloading.
Get DAP from download.com, install it and keep it as your default downloader and you can monitor downloads...

use Mozilla firefox! http://www.mozilla.org

it's way better than internet explorer, with way fewer popups. You can also keep track of what you're downloading. It has a little popup window..and shows you what you just downloaded...and you can either "Open" or "Remove" the downloaded file.

some files are hidden. mainly to stop people moving or changing them. some files are better left alone. Its very easy to screw up your computer by altering files
