SPAYING HER WONT GET HER TO LISTEN TO YOU. YOU NEED HER TO UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE THE BOSS. TAKING HER ON WALKS EVERYDAY, WHERE SHE IS AT HEEL THE WHOLE TIME, WILL TEACH HER THAT YOU ARE IN CHARGE AND SHE IS A FOLLOWER. ALSO, DONT LET HER GET AWAY WITH THINGS THAT YOU WOULDNT LET A GREAT DANE GET AWAY WITH, LIKE JUMPING ON YOU, OR BARKING EXCESSIVELY. MAKE HER UNDER STAND THAT SITTING ON THE COUCH IS A PRIVILEGE AND SLEEPING WITH YOU TOO. THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO IN ORDER FOR HER TO LISTEN, BUT THESE WILL GET YOU STARTED.

You must establish your place as the dominant, or Alpha, leader of the dog. Like children, dogs need to know what you expect and where their boundaries lie.

Work with your dog at an early age to correct unwanted behavior in a calm but firm manner. Yelling or hollering only excites the dog, so maintaining a calm demeanor works best. Develop a sound that gets the attention of the dog, but not one that excites the dog. I like to use a “shhhhpppt” air-hiss type of sound. When I need a more forceful approach, I use the sound and I snap my fingers. Once I have their attention I lock eyes and do not look away until the dog looks away. The dog looking away is a submissive act and acknowledges that you are in control. In some cases, you may have to make physical contact with the dog, but do so in a manner that does not cause pain. A simple touch to the chest or the side of the neck usually suffices. Again, avoid showing emotion of any type when making taking corrective action.

As with training any dog, consistency is a requirement. Be careful not to allow the behavior in some cases and then expect the dog to behave in another situation.

Not everyone agrees that spaying or neutering "calms" a dog. I believe that it does to some degree. I have one dog that became more a bully than she was before the surgery. I guess she over compensates to maintain her role as the top female in the pack. (Trust me, everyone knows she is the chief B****.)

Good luck!

If she is not a show dog..please have her spayed. Not only will she not contribute to the overpopulation, but she will also listen and focus more. She wont have the hormones driving her nuts. She will also be a healthier dog for it with a seriously diminished risk of reproductive tumors. Spaying her is the responsible thing to do. Dogs do not learn good manners from having puppies, if anything they can get worse. IT IS NEVER TO LATE FOR HER TO LEARN. Look into a reward based training program and she can learn. She did not come with the dog-english translation manual. Training classes will help you learn how to communicate with her so that she can better understand what exactly you want from her. If you are of limited income there are many low cost spay/neuter clinics available. These are state funded in effort to reduce the overpopulation that already exists. I may be a little biased but, I really love the classes at Petsmart. The classes are not only inexpensive but they also use reward based methods and THEY ARE GUARANTEED! Feel free to contact me if you need more info SHE IS NOT TRYING TO BE THE BOSS..SHE JUST DOESNT KNOW THE RULES!!(if she did she would abide by them)

PS too many people watch Cesar Milan and think they know how to train a dog. There is a reason his show says DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS! Many of his methods, when not used correctly or with the knowledge of dog behavior and body language, could get you bit!!!

what do u mean by her ways? what does she do? praise her when she does something well or give her a treat. Use the same command words such as "fetch", "no" so she can learn the behavior to match that word. If different people are yelling at her she will only be confused and more upset, and won't know what she is supposed to do. Watch a few episodes of the Dog Whisperer.

To start with you need to get her to obedience classes. The classes are not for her but for you to teach you how to handle your dog. It sounds like teh last thing you need is a litter of puppies on top of a dog you can not control. If anything I guess she will get worse after having puppies. Take her to the vet, get her spayed and ask about obedience classes in your area.

First of all she should be spayed - it's much healthier for her. Having puppies is not going to teach her responsibility, nor will she change her ways after you spay her. Dogs don't teach themselves - YOU have to take responsibility and train this dog. If you can't cope by yourself, take her to obedience classes so people will stop yelling at this poor dog - it's not her fault that no one's bothered to train her!

there has to be one person who the dog listens to. That person has to have a strong voice and has to be very strict with the dog. This is the only way to train your dog. I have a staffordshire pit bull terrier and i have trained him that way. And he obeys all my commands.

Hi,
If you want to stop unwanted behaviours of your dog you need to follow a good training course. One of the best I found online is http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=572

. It really helped me a lot. I saw very quick improvements thanks to some gentle, simple and effective tecniques they teach in the course
I hope it helps
