This is very normal babies can have a soft greenish or yellow stool due to breast feeding. And some babies take quite a while on solids before this changes. It has nothing to do with what you wife is eating. IF it becomes a dark green and is very liquidly for several bowel movements in a row you should call your pediatrician or advice nurse. And save a diaper--I know it sounds gross. They may want to make sure that your baby is processing food well and not becoming dehydrated. It can be hard to tell with a breast fed baby. But a doctors office can find out by weighing baby before and after a feeding. Good luck!

It could be something the mum is eating. If it's not happening all the time, chances are it's not serious. If the mum eats a lot of green veggies or chocolate or has a glass of wine, it does affect the baby's digestive system. If you can't pin it down to anything she or the baby have had, or if the stools are very loose, I would mention it to your health visitor or GP. If the baby is otherwise healthy and thriving, everything is probably okay - breastfed babies have different stools to bottlefed anyway. Good luck and pat her on the back for giving your baby a great start in life, physically and emotionally.

In newborn babies, fecal matter is initially yellow/green after the meconium. This colouration comes from the presence of bile alone. In time, as the body starts expelling excess dead red blood cells, it acquires its familiar brown appearance, unless the baby is breast feeding, in which case it remains soft, pale yellowish, and not-unpleasantly scented until the baby begins to eat significant amounts of other food

When my daughter had this I was told by my health visitor that she was either breast feeding too much or not enough! Once the feeding pattern settles, it should turn to more of a yellow colour (looks like mustard).

there are 3 main ways this happens - one, mommy likes green veggies a lot, two mommy likes something that has a lot of green dye in it, and three - baby is sick. if this is the only thing you are getting, then it's either 1 or 2, if your baby is giving other symptoms of being sick, call the pediatrician.

i have the same problem with my 2 months daughter. i asked doctors and they told me don't worry as long as she's growing in weight and don't have any symptoms it's ok. but i'm still preoccupied with that. i stopped eating fruits and vegetables for a few days but it's the same. i read on a site that is a digestion problem. that is either a poor digestion or a too strong one.
