I say we will "NOT" win. Some here say we will. I'm from the Vietnam era so why should I believe we will win? Remember people. I've heard the "We will endure at all cost" before.

Hello again friend. A good question.

The problem is, what does it mean to win? I am here in Iraq and I am not really sure what constitutes winning. My definition would be that the Iraqi Army is trained to deal with the internal issues and civil war (I don't care what the President or anyone else says, there is a civil war going on.. I see it every day) on their own, free of US assistance.

If that is winning, then yes, we will eventually win. If you define winning however, as a cessation of all opposition and guerilla activities directed towards the Iraqi and Coalition forces, then I agree with you, we will likely fail to achieve this objective and "win" by said definition.

If you were in nam you should no this is a totally different war. Right now we are winning it. We have come across many documents during raids for intel. Many times we came across the terrorists in there own words explaining that they believe they cant win.

But i we will eventually lose it. The liberal media down plays the war, the president, and everything else that makes sense for that matter. Because of this its difficult to do what really needs to be done over there like for example use our troops as soldiers rather than police.

When the civil war starts, we will pull out, Iran will take it, double in power and b/c of that so will our enemies.

The war in Iraq was won very shortly after it began. The purpose for the invasion was to depose the Hussein regime. we did just that, in short order.

We don't have a win/lose stake in Iraq, the Iraqis do. We are providing them with top cover so they have the best chance of success. The cost of providing that security far outweighs the cost of allowing them to fail.

Will we win the war in Iraq? We won it already. Will the Iraqis win the war to secure their Independence? If we have anything to say about it, yes they will.

Well...actually it depends....in case of vietnam....the vietnamese were able to fight longer and the US just gave up.It is same in case of Iraq. If the US has the will to fight these terrorists in Iraq for a long time...then yes..in the long term they can win. I would also like to bring one more point here....it is easier to elongate a war in its own country than on another's land. So....Iraq will be a very difficult and long fight....and they have to stay there and ready to make more sacrifices....if US want to win.

It depends upon the definition of winning. I see two winning possiblities.

Low probability: Iraq becomes a truly democratic success

Higher probability: Iraq falls into civil war and its neighbors become involved sparking sect on sect violence ad infinitum.

Nobody wins in any war. It is better not fight with your brothers. You do not wash the blood with blood. Peace and Love is the answer.

I was born in 1952. Hard to believe that these whack-jobs think we can win. I would have thought that we'd learned our lesson by this point in history.
