Prevention And Treatment Of Dandruff

Shampoo:
Keep a clean scalp. Use shampoo regularly. Let shampoo remain on the scalp for five minutes before you rinse thoroughly. You can choose from many OTC shampoos that are available in the market for dandruff. These shampoos may contain active compounds such as selenium sulfide, ketoconazole, tar, zinc pyrithione, etc. Experts believe that alternating shampoos after every wash may be more effective. You have to use some of these shampoos carefully. Always read the instructions with attention.

Avoid Stress:
Avoiding stress may help you fight dandruff.

Avoid Chemical Treatments:
Avoid chemical treatment of hair. Avoid using hair care products that are chemically based such as sprays, pomades, etc.

Diet:
Eat a healthy and well balanced diet.

Sun:
It is observed that instances of dandruff reduce in summer. That provides a thought that sunlight may be good for treating dandruff. But you have to carefully protect your body with sunscreen before you walk out.

* Preventing Dandruff
An oily scalp causes dandruff. Choose a shampoo that will clean your hair without leaving too much residue-such products are often labeled "clarifying." Use smaller amounts of shampoo and conditioner to avoid scalp irritation from over-washing.

Rinsing thoroughly prevents dandruff. The build up of compounds from styling products and perspiration contributes to the problem of an oily and flaky scalp. Spend an extra minute to scrub under the water-your scalp will thank you.

Avoiding excessive styling products prevents dandruff. Hair gels, creams, waxes, and dyes can irritate the scalp, so stay away from using these products in excess, if at all. Try to find products with fewer harsh chemicals and more natural ingredients.

A healthy diet prevents dandruff. Avoid excessively fatty and oily foods, as well as additives and preservatives. Heavy fats work their way into skin oils, causing the imbalanced secretion of oils on your scalp that leads to dandruff. Taking Vitamins A and B promotes a healthy scalp and regulates the secretion of oil.

Added stress causes dandruff. Stress in other parts of your life (such as the fluctuating hormones of the female cycle) will affect the state of your scalp (and the rest of your body), so be aware of your mental and emotional health and take time every day to wind down and relax.

* Treatment for Dandruff
A good anti-dandruff shampoo should contain salicylic acid or ketoconazole, both of which treat the irritated skin cells. There are many different options when it comes to choosing an effective anti-dandruff shampoo, so if something doesn't work right away try something new.

If you find that traditional methods of dandruff treatment aren't working for you, you may want consult a dermatologist. Excessive and persistent dandruff may be a symptom of a more serious skin condition, such as seborrhoeic dermatitis, eczema, or psoriasis.

*All-natural home remedies.
It is possible to relieve your dandruff with treatments made in your own home. Here are a few quick options:

Massage your scalp with table salt to remove dandruff prior to shampooing.

After washing your hair, massage your scalp with a half-cup of apple cider vinegar. Leave in and repeat for a week.

Boil 2 tablespoons of dried thyme in 1 cup of water for 5 minutes and allow to cool. Strain the mixture, then massage into hair and scalp. Don't rinse out.

I have had dandruff all of my life and the following tedious but sucessful process is the only thing that ever works for me. I keep my hair short. When i shower i wash my hair with shampoo first, then after rinsing the sampoo i put my head right under the shower stream and turn it up as far as i can (pressure wise not heat wise) and i rub my head vigourously while the water is running over it. then i use conditioner and let it soak while washing my body and brushing my teeth. when i get out of the shower i actually put the same lotion that i use on my face on my scalp. but u really have to have short hair for this to work.

Use the following methods to remove the dandruff from your hairs :

Massage with carrot juice to scalp once in a week to cure dandruff.

We have an extremely simple and effective remedy - sour curds (yoghurt). Yes you've read it correctly. Apply sour curds on the scalp and leave it for 30 minutes. Then use a regular shampoo, and voila - your hair is healthy and clean.

Another simple tip would be to oil (warm coconut oil is good) your hair and leave it overnight. Mix salt in a little lemon juice and apply on your scalp. Wash it off after an hour.

Take sour curd (yogurt) and mix with 2 table spoon of gram flour and egg white and apply. Shampoo after 1 hour. Do this once in a week for 4 to 5 week to get rid off dandruff.

Boil oat meal and massage to scalp, comb after 10 minutes and shampoo after 15 minutes. Repeat this once in week.

Mix 3 tbsp of lime juice with ? cup coconut oil and massage to scalp. Shampoo after 1 hour.

Mix one part of mouthwash(that's labeled antiseptic) with 9 parts of water and massage to scalp. Rinse after 10 minutes

very easy. Just with a good anti dandruff shampoo. That's enough. For me, it is something seasonal. at a regular period of time, I have to tolerate my dandrufff's. During this time a good anti dandruf shampoo has solved my problem. at another season I don't have this problem, without doing any action.
