It means, lets go out and have a good time! Paint the "Town Red" was a term coined in the early 1800`s . Back then, it meant "Shooting Up"the town,having sex,getting drunk,etc! In the 1900`s it meant "Basically" Partying! I.E. Having a "Wild Time" Pulling out ALL The STOPS!!!

I agree with snowdog74. I also understood it to mean spending so much money while doing these "fun" things so as to go into debt before we'd stop doing them! While not literally going into debt but goin' to the finer (often more expensive) places to do these things...
I've heard 2 different references to four-wheeler:
pickup truck driving in mud, dirt, bumpy, etc.
the smaller ATV which can be in mud but usually on dirt and hills, etc. where probably he'd be driving it and if you were riding, you'd probably want to "hold on to something" to keep from falling off.

Painting the town red means going out and and having a good time going place to place.
Four-wheeling? Never heard that one before. I am assuming that has something to do with all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). LOL

Four-wheeling means taking an off-road ride in a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Usually involves lots of mud.

"Paint the town red" merely means lets go have a lot of fun in as many places as possible...usually drinking is involved.

I'm not sure where you're asking from but, if you're in a city then there's a RED LIGHT district........ as in sex drugs alcohol music protitute's etc.....
Well if you paint the town red,you'll get it anywhere and everywhere in town.

The other means to go four wheeling sometime! Assuming you like trucks driving over rough terrain and through mud and water.
