Uhhhh...are you talking about ON the Pepsi? Probably the same reason the Nike slash is used, or the Jolly Green Giant....so you know which product you have and are using.

It is used to identify the brand of Soft drink in a literal sense.
The advertisers use the Pepsi logo to associate with a style of life with the consumer. To the aveage consumer there is little difference between Pepsi and its Coke counterpart. They use the logo to try and create brand awareness and loyalty much like we have to sports teams.
