Here is an old fashioned remedy which has helped most people I have told in the past.

Hope you like green peppers though - because raw green peppers are the answer. If you eat raw green peppers it seems to have some magical effect. I don't know why it works but it does. Just like garlic is fantastic for colds and chicken broth is wonderful for flu systoms.

Give it a try, if you can't get to the chemist for a few hours. In fact you may not need a prescription.

crack 25 black peppers (do not crush them to powder) take half a glass of water and pour into a vessel and pepper and boil for 1 minute cool it (do not add salt or sugar) filter the the contents and drink it in one gulp. Note it will burn for few minutes but after that your sore throat , cold etc etc will vanish. You can do this as often as you can and there are no side effects.

Ice chips - crush up a bunch and put them in some juice or something if you'd like, and then eat them. You can put ice on your throat, too, if you like (make sure and wrap it first, though).
